My new FB is accerating like crap
Well after a year of saving for an RX7 I finally got one!!
It is mint condition, Series 2 - 1983, only 150,000 Kms. Full service history, Mint red interior. I will put pics up soon.
Any way we had to drive for like 9 hours to get there, an to get back. It drove so well all the way home. No problems what so ever, an then as i turned into my driveway it started spluttering an wouldn't idle. It was 5 in the morning an i had no idea what it could be. So i woke up this morning hoping it magically fixed itself, no such luck. It will idle now but it is quite rough an it shakes a bit. Whenever i give it some gas it hesitates and slowly accerlates. Its real slow to get up in the revs compared to yesterday when it was perfect. It drives but its real slow.
So, any ideas? Fuel filter? What would cause it to run like crap the second i pulled up the drive? I was doin about 100kmhr (60 mile) for the last two hours before i got home, an its like as soon as i slowed down it turned to crap. I checked the plugs an look ok, the distributor points looked a little worn.
Its my first rotary an i have no idea.

You still have points in a 83? Is that a Kiwi Thing? lol. 1st thing I would change is the fuel filter. Check to make sure you have spark to the leading plugs. Then report after that.
Pull each lower plug seperately and ground it, that will give you a chance to visually inspect them too. Fuel filter is always a good place to start, along with a full tune up and the 60k service schedule.
Ok done. The spark looks good from all leads an the fuel filter is pretty much new. What next lol. is it possible the timing all of a sudden went out? It was raining all last night if that changes anything.

wait a minute, no compression at all or does it give one good puff then a pause, pause, before another puff. do you know what I mean? If there's nothing at all, then that means that something took out all three of your apex seals on that rotor (er, well, at least two of them anyway)...
I'm sorry to hear that. I really wish that **** like that didn't happen, but the good news is that when you save up enough money to have it rebuilt (or you rebuild yourself if you have the time/patience/tools/skills) you can port it and make it faster if you want. It does really suck to hear that, though.
Yeh thats true, i might get a loan or something. Its too good a car to just leave sittin around
When i did the compression test on the lower plug there was nothing an on the top plug there was a slight movement in the gauge. Its stuffed i think.
When the rotor loses compression like this does it damage the housings or other internals? If i stripped it down would i be able to just replace the apex seals, or is it most likely that i will i need new housings an rotor?
The rear rotor was on 90 psi so hopefuly its still in good shape

When you toss a seal, it usually takes the housing with it, sometimes the rotor too, but you won't know until you tear it down. I'm really sorry to hear you lost the engine already.
Order the Rotary Aviation or Atkins rebuild video, tear the engine down then start looking for parts. In my sig line is a link to the online FSMs if you don't have a copy yet.

Sorry bro.... Same thing happened to me about 8 years ago with a FC. I ended up getting a loan for a rebuild. It was a great time for a Street Port, new clutch, gut emissions and totally clean the engine bay......overall, I was kind of glad it happened. I ended up with a solid car and alot of experience from it.
Good luck
