my new FB

as some of you will remember i have an 83 GS that i have been toying with for a while. well, recently i encountered a problem that will require and engine rebuild. i am saving up for it, but i found a sweet *** deal the other day on my way home from work.

as i was driving home i spottes an 82 GSL for sale...price.....$350 obo. so naturally i jumped on it. got him down to $300 and as of 20 minutes ago i am the owner of an 82 GSL hardtop with a 5spd manual. it doesnt have even half of the accessories that my GS does, but it was cheap. i will post pics soon.

the guy i got it from is a chevy and ford guy (not my cup of tea but whatever) and for some reason could not adapt his mechanical ways to suit a rotary. he parked it for 2 months and decided to sell it when it wouldn't start again. sounds to me like it may just need to have oil applied to the rotors and cranked over. one question though......the fuel pump has a whole clicking sound when i put the key in...shouldn't it be a constant whirring sound like my 83?

it is primered black at the moment but the paint color in the interior is a copper/gold color....can't tell which at the moment as it is dark and i don't have a light. interior is black and in decent shape but the seats are kinda fubarred when it comes to the uppholstery, and one of the bins behind the seats needs to have the lid mounted on it again.

also, just so i know.......what were the main differences between the GS and the GSL?

most aftermarket parts store pumps sound like the one you describe, so don't worry. any idea why it doesn't start or run? Really the same principles apply to starting a piston engine...spark ingtion compression....

well keep us updated

interesting because mine is factory from mazda and it makes a constant clicking noise. maybe mazda gave me a carter? anyways great find for the price and the rare, more light, more rigid body car! but a gsl didnt come in hardtop. only base models did (S model). gsl came with a sunroof at that time and lsd, 4 wheel disc brakes, and cruise, ac, optional leather, premium sound system, hatch windshield wiper/squirter, etc. gs is a little dowgrade to rear drums, no lsd, not much options.. maybe cruise and ac and upgraded stereo to tape deck and am/fm reciever deck as seperate units. and s came with basic radio, rear drums, no lsd, basic interior, no ac, no cruise, no sunroof. i might be wrong on some info but this is what i know off the top of my head. good luck and have fun with your car!

hrmmm......now im getting really interested.....it has the GSL badges, but it is drums in back, no sunroof, and manual locks and windows.....could it possibly be a GS that has been re-badged? also, my other GS has way more accessories than this one.....not quite sure why. thanks for the help with the fuel pump sound. i was worried for a minute.

also i found out my original paint color...it was taht misty blue color originally. kinda wish they had left it that way...

it would be a gs if it had a sunroof. no sunroof only means one thing: S!!! congrats the s model is in my opinion more rare these days because people usually upgraded to the gs for much more options. but having no sunroof can be benifitial in racing conditions because it makes the whole structure of the body more rigid and stiff. with the gsl badges.. theyre just badges.. but great find and great price and hope it wont take much to get it cranking again. good luck
