My new exhaust

I took my car in today and had a new exhaust system put on. I ended up with 2 1/4" pipe to a resonator and a Dynamax Super Turbo muffler and a tasteful chrome tip, no header just the stock manifold. The exhaust is really no louder than stock but the increase in power is great. I especially notice it in the high revs. I had the car out at a Solo 2 event tonight and I really noticed an improvement as the car tends to rev a lot during those events. I am hooked on these cars.

Sounds cool man, but do you think it will stand up to the heat?

I asked the guy at the muffler shop about that. He said because cats were being eliminated the heat won't build up as bad. Plus, the Dynamax muffler has a lifetime warranty, so if it burns out, they can replace it.

Good news about the lifetime warranty. Removal of the cats will actually put more heat strain on the rest of the system. There aren't many things hotter than the exhaust of a rotary engine...

not necessarily...cuz if you think about it...free flowing will be much cooler than somthing that is clogged by restrictive cats...

if you get the heat building up in the cats due to restriction...you are gonna have LOTS of heat stress put on the connecting pipe between the cat and the muffler just where it comes out of the cat...

glad to hear you got a new exhaust...but how come you didnt go bigger than 2 1/4?...thats like what civics run

Big exhaust sounds like a chainsaw... 2 1/4 is huge on a Civic and apparently its coooool to have your car sound like a chainsaw if your a Civic guy. 2 1/4 is just about right on an FB and sounds good. Just says something about the 12A when compared to a B16.

To even things up, I'd like to see a B16 run with a carb rather than a state-o-the art computer and see how it runs... or compare a 12A on a sweet injection system.

The system cost me $400 and that included aluminized pipe. The thing I liked about the Dynamax muffler was that there aren't any baffles to push the exhaust through. The exhaust travels in a zig-zag through the muffler, so it flows much better. Another guy at the event last night has a header (non-RB) with no resonator and a glass pack muffler. It sounds like garbage and I kicked him on the course. That made me even happier with my set up.

Yeah, even with a stock manifold, 2 1/4 pipe and a free-flow muffler will allow these to breathe quite well. I have a similar exhaust setup, except it is full stainless pipe and a PowerTech stainless muffler (fart cannon style). Sounds good, and flows pretty well.
Here's an old pic that shows the muffler.
