Arrow My new 80 rx7 wont start ?

I have just picked up a 1980 rx7. I got it home, and I have been working on it for the past couple days. Its getting to look pretty good. Ok the bad news, It wont start. It has been sitting for a year. I just got a new starter for it and that didnt do it. I took the starter out and tried to turn the fly wheel with a screw driver and it wont budge. It seems the engine is frozen. Is that carbon lock? Anyway I tried to push start it and it wont start. The back tires just skid when I put it in gear. What should I do.

Thanks

Brad

1) remove rad cap
2) replace all under
3) screw rad cap back on

1 point for rexless....

hehehe... I would say poor some down the carb.... some in the spark plug holes... and let it sit...

make sure all the electricals work.... and its not just a blown wire thingy on the firewall....

um... if you can... I would try and take a socket and a cheater bar to the front pulley and try to pry it backwards a bit, but also try not to take the pulley off

it may have blown an apex seal, and it got wedged in there.. thats what happened to my 80 before I owned it, and it was my brothers.... he got the car after the previous owner over heated it.... well... it smoked and some how the seal made it blow up... hhhee.. then I got ahold of it.. and now it will be my daily driver...

it means remove the radiator cap and replace everything else. It's a little humour.

Very little.

Put the ATF in let it soak for like 24 hours then try to turn the engine over.

I know how it works. I just think the engine is frozen. I dont know why but I think I might have to replace it. Is there any other reason why the engine would turn.

CARBON LOCK?!

Try turning the crankshaft bolt with a wrench, back and forth, rock it...

Hey I got it runing. It looks like it was carbon lock. I tock the fan out and put a big braker bar on the main pully while dumping a ton of atf down the carb. Thanks for your help

take car outta gear, take 19mm 3/8" drive rachet/socket and try to turn the main pulley if it wont turn you got serious clutch problems or you got a locked up motor. Kinda hard to believe it was fine one day and the next wont turn

OOOOPS TOO LATE

Hey Another question. The car wont start. It will but I have to push start it every time. The new starter sounds like it is working but it wont crank over

okay, what do you hear to signify the starter "sounds like it's working" if you don't hear the engine crank over?

If the starter won't turn the engine over make sure all connections are good. If still does not work give the starter a lil tap with a hammer because it may be seized. That should unseize the starter. If that doesn't work ask the people who know more about this stuff than me lol.

"tapping" the starter a bit too enthusiastically could result in broken windings, which would mean a new starter.

yeah, but when using a precision calibrated single user multi percussion whackometer, different operators have different concepts of 'lightly'
