My Mazda doesn't go hmmmm anymore..
::sigh:: It figures.. the week before spring break and shes died today. My father asked to borrow my car to go get the morning paper today after his truck wouldn't start. I heard him coming back and the exhaust sounded different. He comes in to the house as white as a ghost and says, "I think I broke your car." I tore *** out and as I hit the key, the engine didn't crank the way it usually did and it wouldn't start. I got some ATF and ether and mixed the two and finally got it running. Right away I knew what it was.. popped apex seal. Car wouldn't idle, was extremely rough running and could barely rev to save it's life. He mentioned a loud pop from the engine bay and it suddenly fell flat on it's face power-wise. Just confirming what I had feared. Oh well.. I guess I'm finally gonna get to rebuild a rotary. Let's just hope the housings and rotor aren't toast. If the housings are still okay, I think I'm gonna streetport it while I've got it apart. If housings are roached, I may be looking at a TII conversion or just build a NA 13B 4-port. Anyone got info on the parts needed for the 4-port build? Hell, why not thumb my nose and stick a Buick turbo V6 in there? LOL Sorry.. I'm only kidding.. well, thanks for listening..

Double-checking here.. when you pull a leading plug and turn it over you SHOULD hear a "WHOOSH-WHOOSH-WHOOSH", correct? Not a "WOOSH-pfft-pfft"? I haven't pulled the plugs yet, but I'm about 95% sure it munched a seal. This is acting the same way as the old SE I had, and I know it had a blown seal. Someone had loosened the distributor and never tightened it back up. I'm interesting in doing damage analysis on this one and trying to figure out what caused this one to go, as I've heard 12A's are the equivalent of the venerable Dodge Slant 6. Bulletproof rotaries, my ***... LOL

Well, the chassis has just under 77,000 miles on it. I'm not sure if the engine was original or not, as the inner fenders and parts of the firewall have undercoating on them. Could have been done at a dealer when new, but it's hard to say. I tend to think that this car was rode hard and put away wet frequently before I got it and previous owners unfamiliar to rotary maintence may have taken their toll... oh well.. at least this is a kick in this *** I need to weld up the floors of my Civic.. I bet it shifts mad qwik...
