hi all, im very new to the rotary world, and thought i would pick up a '84 GSL-SE for $900 canadian cuz i've always liked them and also one of my friends has a GSL version RX-7, lol he was mad cuz he paid $1400 for a '84 for a GSL. Heres a few pics of it.

The 40km drive home was totally ok, but when i got it home and tried to see it sounds better at higher rpm, cuz it kinda sounds like a bus under 3000rpm (no offence) soo when it goes past 4000rpm i start to hear a screeching noise, it just gets louder as the rpms go up, and fades when you go under 4000rpm.

So do i have any takers on what is causing it, and how to fix it? and if the screeching is a danger sign?

How many belts go over the fan? Is the fan clutch able to spin with low resistance while the engine is off?
I bet the screeching is from a slipping belt, especially if it has the air pump removed and/or the fan clutch is froze.

 

It could be the starter / flywheel making the screech noise. Is the clutch new? Any transmission work been done on it, recently?
