Is my fuel pump going out?

Well on my car, (i'm using a SE fuel system) I constantly have to reprime the fuel system. Over night it wont start with out priming it first. (shorting out the yellow connector). After I start it with the connector shorted out, I kill theengine and then remove the wire from the short out plug. The car will start and drive but about fifteen minutes later the idle starts to go down, down down. When it finally dies I have to re prime the fuel system or it wont start.

I'm thinking its the fuel pump since I got it out of a junk yard. Can anybody tell me the symptoms of a dieing fuel pump on a GSL-SE?

Well, on my GS, th epump lost power. It would idle just fine, but when I would get up to around 45 mph, it would buck around, and if I hammered down, nothing would happen. I ended up having to re-wire the pump. But my car is also carburated.

Does anybody else know the symptoms of a dying fuel pump in a GSL-SE?

Why not just wire the pump direct, or leave the jumper in all the time. All that jumper does is turn on the fuel pump when the key is in the run mode of the switch. Instead of the start mode holding the circuit closed until it starts up.

My .03¢ Just questions? Try to really understand the problem.

well, holding it open like that cant be good as I thought that was one of the ways the computer controls fuel pressure.

I have ran it before with the connector shorted out, and it backfired a little bit, and it doesnt backfire at all with the relay running normally. But I could deal with a backfire or two if needed.

But the main thing is, IS it SAFE to run the FI system with the fuel pump wired on all the time?
