my first 1st gen

Hi, my name is Matt, and I've been on the forum since 2001, but I haven't been frequenting the forums...I rarely post. My 89' vert is pretty much dead and my engine is no longer working...so, I purchased my VERY FIRST 1ST GEN last night!... It's a 1979 with a streetported 13b and a holley 600 4barrel with only 195 miles on the engine as of this instant. I bought it from a guy who isn't familiar with rotaries and who was going to drag race it with his son...the son lost interest, so after it was rebuilt, he put a stock exhaust on it and gave it to his 16 year old daughter. She flooded it and it went back to the shop to get unflooded, where I saw it and asked if it was for sale. The mechanic gave my number to the owner, and we took it from there. I paid $1900 for it and it's uglier than home made sin, but as I said, I couldn't pass it up with as little mileage as it had and that it has a new clutch. Any tips on properly breaking in a new streetport? I can't wait until I get to open it up! Thanks for reading this!

Good find.

Change the oil after 500mi, and keep it below 6k till you hit 1,000mi. Vary the rpms alot (upshift down shift ect when you think about it)

That said, I only babied mine untill 500mi.

for sure man...that's the first thing I do once it's broken in...possibly before. I'm supposed to be getting some more cash in mid-february, so that will be my first mod. it's slow with a stock exhaust. I"ll put up some pics as soon as I get a chance. thanks for the support!
