My faith has been re-affirmed!

As many of y'all know... I've been a little unlucky (to say the least), when it comes to my RX-7(s). Between wrecking my 79 Widebody, then driving it to New Orleans, where the motor proceeded to die on the trip, and then buying 3 other ones after that, and dealing with tow yards, shipping companies, apartment complexes, name it... it's been a never-ending uphill battle.

Am I masochistic for taking all of this punishment, and coming back for MORE? Or is it stupidity? I'd like to think both But honestly.... when you stack up all the **** that I've been through with my cars, it's no wonder why I had seriously contemplated getting completely out of the "game."

That was until today.

I was driving down Atlantic Blvd., here in Jax, and saw THREE first gens, FOUR second gens, a rotary AE86, and a REPU all in the same dealer's lot. Naturally, I slammed on the brakes, and pulled into the lot.

I got to talking with the mechanics (I'm fluent in spanish, but it's more of the mexican dialect... puerto rican is a LOT different!), and explained to them that I had an 85 at my house, that I needed to either: a) sell it whole, b) part it out, c) buy a junked first gen with a title, and transfer the vin plates over, d) buy another first gen, and put the motor and vin plates into my car, or e) buy another first gen, and transfer all of my parts onto it.

They tell me they've got a bridgeported 12A, holley carb'ed, CLEAN TITLE, 84 GS for $2000. I go and look at it... paint still looks good... it's definitely oxidized, but a buffer and an afternoon can take care of that. I ask them to start it up. Wub... wub... wub.... wubwubwubwuwbub...brapbrapbrap brap brap...brap brap brap brap. BWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA A brapbrapbrapbrap brap brap brap.

I think I needed a cigarette, some juice, a hug, and a nap.

The next words that he said to me were like Jenna Jameson talking dirty to me... "You wanna take her for a ride?" Ohhhh... dammit. I made another mess.

Gulp... "..... sure."

"Go have fun... don't wreck it."

First gear, shift at 9K, second gear, shift at 9K, third gear, lay on the gas pedal....

wow... 120 comes up REAL quick!

The brakes on it suck. Maybe I'm biased because I've always had braided SS brakelines... but that was such a rush....

I'm begging my boss for a paycheck advance so I can go get this car. My rent's already taken care of... but wow... that was such a beautiful powerband.... I'm still shaking from the adrenaline, 6 hours later.

I think what I'd do, would be just to take option E.

wow, what a find, hope you get it!

I wish there was a place that sold rotaries like that place around here! I NEVER see a first gen for sale.

Ditto on the bridgeport reliability, but I just wanted to say that the brakes may also suck since its got the rear drums. All my 7s always had 4 wheel disc braks, so I couldnt say how a good operating disc/drum system would work compared to a good operating disc/disc system. Anyway, it was just a thought.
