Is my engine toast???

Well the other day I was driving my '82 GSL when I accidentaly pulled out in front of a car, the car was far enough away that I floored it and was able to get away without the car even tapping its brakes. But I have big ruber floor mats. The gas got stuck to the floor so I had to power shift between 1st and 2nd and the during the longer period between 2nd and 3rd the engine shot up to 8000rpms and the beyond. (I think about 8500 to 9000) before i got it in gear. The car now seems like its down on top end power and every once in a while make a rythmic bonking noise. If anyone has any ideas I would like to hear it. Thanks in advance.

I have pegged redline and beyond many times and never had a problem, I have pegged them and long distance speed test where the engine felt like it was coming apart and never had it do anything. As long as you dont leave it a redline in a lower gear chances are you wont do damage unless the motor is just on it's way out. Need to perform compression test
first then check your ignition system, may have over taxed aplug or compromised an ignitor.
when in doubt always refer to the basics. rx7doctor
