My clutch seems shot
It is a used clutch off a junkyard car; when Paul and I pulled it he said it looked like it has a lot of miles left on it. And I have to agree, it did look better than the other two clutches I had pulled off and they worked fine.
It doesn't engage (disengage?) quickly. When I push the pedal to the floor I can hear the clutch spinning for a couple seconds until it slows to a stop. Shifting is clunky; going from 3rd to 2nd is almost impossible without grinding the gears.
I have a few opinions on this; I think either the clutch splines have been flattened or the master cylinder is going. I replaced the slave not long ago, along with the line. I've bled the slave cylinder line. I don't understand these hydrolic things.
Sometimes the pedal doesn't want to come off the floor and it's hard to get into reverse. I think something needs to be replaced, but I don't know what yet.

I replaced a leaky master cylinder and left the old slave on. I blew the seal off the slave in 10 minutes. A self bleeder really makes the process alot easier and they're only about 5 bucks. To check the master cylinder look at the rod and the back of the seal, any wetness and it's probably going. For the slave pull back the dustboot, any brake fluid in there and she's gone. I'm sure you probably know this, but I'm kinda bored tongiht, so what the hell.
I was told that my pressure plate had most likely bit the dust and that I would need an entire clutch package. Not beleive them I replaced my hydraulics and the clutch feels better than the day I bought it. Good luck.

if the pedal doesn't come off the floor, chances are it's your hydraulics... check for leaks.
I had a problem--my clutch was dying--and the first thing i did was bleed the whole system. the fluid was dirty as hell and there was a lot of air (dunno exactly how it got in there), but after the bleed and cleaning the system was back to normal.
