Is my car missing a Dead Pedal???

I just got this 83 FB a week ago, and the lack of a dead pedal (little place for you to rest your left foot next to the clutch) isn't there. Nor does it look like it was ever there. So do these things even have one in any generation?

If they did come with one, anyone want to sell me theirs? or how did you make one? I'm finding it really uneasy to support myself through fun fun turns

thanks!

all 3 of mine had one. Look on the speaker grill carpet piece and you should see 2 holes where it was originally located.

They weren't standard on the base model car. I bought one from the Mazda dealer (15 years ago maybe?). As was mentioned above, the bolt holes are already there. Just make sure you use the right bolts, they're metric.

Actually, the S model (base) did NOT have a dead pedal. I know, I purchased one new in 1983. It also came without a radio, center console (between the seats), and steel wheels. As a poor college student, I purchased the cheapest new RX7 I could find!

You don't see too many of them without the dead pedal because so few were base models. I can't speak for all the other years, but I would assume the base model did not include the dead pedal either. I have in fact seen an 85 base model with steel wheels and no dead pedal.

Well that explains it. I have the base S model, possibly the lightest, simplest RX7 for the FB. The only option I seem to have is a/c.

I never knew the S had A/C... Doesn't seem to me like it would.

My 84GS has the dead pedal, but no A/C

There is a very simple explanation. The various models designate option packages. An S model could be purchased with additional options. For example, if you did not want a sunroof, you had to buy a package that did not include it as standard and then add the other options individually. So that means an S model COULD have air conditioning, a center console, and the "dead pedal."

Air conditioning was a dealer installed option on the early S models. Air was factory on GS and above trims. On the 79 and 80 S models, side moldings, rear sway bar, 5 speed, center consol were either not available or dealer installed.

PM me if you need a dead pedal. I think I've got one sitting on a shelf, and if not, they're easy to remove from a car.

Had an 85 base model that did not have the pedal. Took one out of a GSL and as already mentioned the base model is equiped to accept one. It also had what appeared to be a non factory a/c. It has been the only one I have seen with a Sankyo compressor.
