My A/C works!!!!!!! YEEEEE HAAAAA

There are about 1million threads on the "R12 to 134A" conversion. None of them really say anything by themselvs so I decided while it was still fresh in my head to give it a shot!

First and formost I STARTED WITH AN EMPTY SYSTEM (good enough treehuggers?)

I bought a retrofit kit at NAPA that had the conversion oil in 2 pressurised cans.

I removed the cap from the "S" side of the compressor and replaced it with a 134A coupler (looks the same but no outside threads.)

I left the "d" side alone because there is no reason to mess with the high pressure side right now.

I purchased 2 13oz cans of "over 50,000 R134A" (better for older systems and will mix with R12 residue"

first the 2 cans of oil go into the system, this puts enough pressure in the system to engage the clutch on the compressor and start the circulating.

next the 2 cans of 134A go into the system. (not much to talk about there)

I let the system run for about 30 minutes on MAX A/C with the doors closed and windows ****.

Thats about all. The system ate up all of the 134A and didnt seem to care. The unit blows cold air without any problems. There isnt a major rise in the temp guage.

I call the whole thing a sucess........

The AC on my 80 has been converted and blows real cold, but my temps rise to half sweep regardless of how you drive it. You said you dont get a temp change, does yours stay a 3/8 sweep, if so I need to service my cooling system.
