My 1985 GS

1985 Mazda Rx-7 GS
12A 5-speed

Carburetor Rebuild
Well, I just bought this car on 9/12/09 from someone for $650. The guy said the idle was bad and might need a new carburetor. With some minor adjustments me and my dad got her idling by adjusting the idle speed. Turns out the guy was adjusting the fuel mixture, he made it too rich which explained the rough idling, then with the turn of a screwdriver we got her idling good and steady around 750 RPM.

We did however find that the fuel pump leaked. So we took out the carburetor. While taking it apart we dropped a few small brass pieces. (will be in pictures when uploaded) I am wondering if anyone has a .pdf of an exploded view of the carburetor used in the GS's 12A carburetor. Or if you could identify the pieces so we could replace them.

Pictures should be uploaded soon.

Does anyone know where I could get a hold of these weights? Or are they common items you could pick up at an auto shop?

I wonder if an incorrectly-set fuel mixture is what's causing my idle problems, as I bought the car from rednecks that didn't seem to know what they were doing.

Did you find that the mixture setting affected drivability too?
