My 83 12a is running an MSD ignition box with a 3rd gen coil pack for the Leading ignition. The secondary ignition is stock (diamond coil).

I wanted to know who has experience with setups like these, and what kind of timing settings worked for them. Of course I can just set the timing such that the engine runs smooth (or close) and try to balance that with the Nikki fuel mixture, but I don't want to over compensate with one of the two just so it's smooth.

Should I just try my hand at a full modified ignition system?

 

You make no mention of other supporting mods. How does the car run? Suggest timing be set to factory spec with timing light and verify centrifugal and vacuum advance are both working properly.
