mounting MSD-DIS, ideas
hey guys.
I’m looking for some ideas to do a nice tidy installation of an MSD-DIS system. Any ideas on where to mount the MSD unit and DIS coil. Photos would be the most useful. The car will be autocrossed and used in track days so vibration will need to be mitigated. I am also using gm ignitor so I will need to mount that on some aluminum as well.
Cheers

Some people put their MSD where the battery used to be. If you have a high vibration environment, you could get the MSD rubber standoff kit. My 6AL came with them. I think it's pretty cheap.
You could mount the DIS coil on the strut tower. I'm not sure what type of bracket you'll need to fab though.
The HEI module needs to be screwed to a peice of sheet aluminum to act as a heat sink. Mount it wherever convenient. Be sure to use the (usually) included heat sink compound.
Is the HEI for the trailing ignition? Please don't tell me you're going to trigger the MSD with it. It's best to trigger the MSD from the leading VR sensor in the dizzy. MSD purple to dizzy green, MSD green to dizzy red. Do you have an '81-'85 dizzy? Or an '80? Hmm, according to your sig it's an '80. The wires may need to be reversed since the '80 dizzy has backwards reluctor wheel.

Leading (note the twin plug MSD coil in the middle) and the trailing (the two outside coils) I am in the middle of the Haltech Install.
2 x 12 inch puller fans @ 1500 CFM each
(I cut the sides of the radiator to make them fit)
1x 10 Pusher fan for the A/C condenser (not pictured)

Oh, ok. I saw that you had a CAS and was curious why you didn't use the stock coils etc. It seemed like overkill to me on trailing.
I see you have a tall style radiator. I've got a short one which was actually so large in my project that I had to mod some sheet metal around it. The oil cooler had to be mounted in front. I'm thinking my single 16" fan may not be adequate. It also has some overhang so I'll need to fab some shrouding so more air gets pulled through the core.

MSD - DIS setup.
Wow DF....that’s quite the setup....
I don’t really want to move the Battery to the rear or anything like that. The 1980 doesn’t have any storage bins....just hollow space....
Has anyone mounted them sideways to the fire wall or anything like that?? Is there room??
Also, which ignition wire do most people hook the thin red wire too??
I would go out to my car and look but there is 3 feet of snow sitting on my dry storage contraption......kind of a pain in the ***....
Cheers
