Hey guys. Sorry about not posting pictures, I'll put them up friday when I get a few minutes to resize them.

So, some updates on the build atleast.

Engine: I decided to go with the guys at RPM Motorsports. The decision was based entirely off their work ethic. I received about 10 phone calls in total between like 3 days, they even called me from their car show down in the states. I found that fantastic, and I felt more rest assured with them then I did RX7 specialties.

However, Adam at RX7 specialties was very kind when I could actually get ahold of him on the phone. He was very knowledgeable and I will definately reccomend him for a build. I will still be making a sizeable buy from him though. He's a supplier for racing beat equipment, and thats what I've decided to go with for an exhuast system. unfortunately, I have to wait for some one I know to be in calgary to get it for me, since his price reflects racing beats and the shipping to get it to him. So, If I ship it from him, thats even more money. So I'll have to wait to get it from him directly, since I think I owe the guy that much.

Body: Started removing engine bay peices, and I began to apply POR 15 in sections. Test running several spots before I continue

Interior: Ripped out all seats, carpets etc. I began to remove the sound tar stuff, and im having a hell of a time. I'm also trying to figure out the mess of Clarion audio amps in there.. So if anyone has any information on how those work or are supposed to be wired, let me know.

Trying to find an original stereo for the thing. If anyone has one from 84.. let me know.

I'll post pictures of progress friday after the dentist drills my teeth

easiest way to remove the sound deadening tar is with dry ice and a hammer. wear a leather glove though.

Allright, Update time:

So: Several things have happened since I posted last. I found a parts car that I bought for 250 bucks. I gutted her down to the floor boards, which I promplty fell through. The entire car would never move again. Break lines leaked, rotors where rusted, Carb was left open and rodents had lived in it, rusted the buttefly valve open.. Engine would turn over for about 10 seconds and die, so the fuel pump was likely also shot.

So: I parted her. Heres what she looked like when I got her

She was then sold for salvage and most of the parts were kept for my SE project.

Secondly: I shipped my engine to RPM Motorsports in Ontario. They have been kick *** with their communication and professionalism. Though the engine got reeally expensive to build.. heres why:

The last owners mechanic friend used make a gasket seal stuff to smack on the waterpump instead of using the actual gasket.. This is what happens. Dont do it, its stupid as hell.

So: Most of the engine as you can see what not reusable. So... I decided that if I was going to do this correctly... We'll build an entirely brand new engine. And so, we pretty much have. The only thing used really will s4 rotors that are being machined for 3 mm apex seals.

So, while the engine is away.. I decided to keep working on the car a bit. I got both the radiator and the gas tank steam cleaned and resealed for 120 bucks

Thats the gas tank of course. I put the first coat of por 15 a few days ag, and I'll be sure you show everyone what it looks it looks like after coat 2.

I can decide if I should spray the engine pay and destroy a paint sprayer with the por 15.. or if I should brush finish it? I bought a can of chassis coat to go over the POR 15 to give it a nice gleaming solid finish. I just dont know what to do. As anyone done it before?

Anyway, thats progress so far. Engine should be here withen a week or two, brand new and shiney, painted and rocking hard. I just have to start picking up new lines for just about everything, blah. Master and Slave cylinders, hoses, vacuum lines.. maybe a fuel line. We'll see. There ye are, hope we like the build so far!

Man, sorry to see what a disaster your engine was, too bad you had tow waste money shipping it. May I suggest staying with 2mm and getting Adams seals from Rx7specialties, these are bulletproof. See if rpm has access to a complete s4/s5 including intake and rebuilt that with a streetport. All you would have to do is use your fuel rail and block off the secondary injectors. Adam built a S5 na for a buddy with a streetport and renesis rotors, worked awesome, super wide linear powerband. maybe Joe has a TII and ecu for a TII swap for you. You will need to use the SE front cover and pan on whatever you decide to build. Good luck with engine.

here is an example of what can be done with the prting for your engine. And some pics of what my 140,000 km SE motor looked like when it blew.

hey, glad to see the progress you have made from when it was in front of my house. motor parts from rx7 guys in calgary are ok but i would stay away from buying other parts that they seem to have no knowledge on. They sent me a lsd for a different car and now won't respond to emails. So i won't take up anymore of your space and good luck with the project we'll have to race once you get it done. cya.

No builder battle here, from what I have read rpm will take good care of you. Check the bad guy section, not a negative word about Joe yet. Nice thing about a new guy like him, he's looking to build clientelle and won't take any chances on a mistake. You should come out fine....

Update time.

I've taken some serious time to put this car together, and I plan on doing everything right the first time, doing it ONE time. So, I present to you: An engine bay that will never rust, ever.

2 coats of POR 15. Tomorrow the semi gloss top coat POR 15 goes on using a sprayer. I did those layers of por 15 using a brush. Do you have any idea how long it took to degrease an engine bay that looked like it had never been cleaned in all of the cars 250k? Lots of hours of scrubbing, pressure washing and marine clean.

So, on the engine front:

GSL SE engine, Mostly stock. S4 rotors machined for 3mm apex seals. New housings, fixed Irons, etc etc.

Whatcha think guys? Almost time.

Injectors are off at RC engineering to be tested, calibrated, cleaned and sent back. Mazda discountinued the injectors, and theres no WAY im paying 700 bucks for freaking fuel injectors.

Looks great, nice engine bay! I would replace the heater hoses at the same time, don't want to overheat a nice new engine for $30 savings.

Oh, almost every hose in that bay needs replaced. They're either cracked, torn or we cut them because the fitting wouldnt come off. Besides, I cant win best 1st gen in show at next years big rotary events if I have old ratty hoses, can I?

Make sure you clean up the wiring too so it doesn't look all ratty like mine. Man I'd gladly break out the mothers before the wiring and electrical tape. I still have a stereo and nitrous waiting for me to install. I'm just not an electrical kind of guy.

Hey there everyone!

It's been some time, and I thought it justified an update on my life and the car.

Since starting my project, I've gone through several life upheavals that are absolutely consumed my life. Graduation, moving out Home, getting my own apartment - then having the apartment destroyed by asbestos, mold and a broken water pipe that submerged the whole place... Buying a house, and in two weeks time.. Getting married! Yowzah!

So, my time with my RX7 has definitely been restricted, which is incredibly unfortunate. However - I kept the vehicle stored safe and sound, waiting for me to get time to work on it. It spent all winter housed with a brand new Honda S2000 at work here (Unfortunately, when I took it out this spring, the RX7 and the S200 had NOT reproduced as planned..)

So, now it's time to get some work done on the vehicle while I have some disposable cash and time!

We got the engine in shortly after I received it last year. Heres a picture of the man that's making all this possible: My father. He's been a wonderful help, and a solid rock of inspiration and knowledge. Without him, I would have shut down the project all together. Truly my hero. Him and I are here together, beside the engine lift I purchased to work on the car!

The big move!

Engine in it's home - Forever now, hopefully!

Happy Canadian:

Once in, I spent hours upon hours replacing everything I could. I bought a whole spool of vacuum hosing and went to town replacing every vacuum hose I could, all heather hoses, all rad hoses.

Original OMP looked operational, so that's still in place for now. Debating the whole premix argument.

I then sent the fuel injectors down to RC engineering for cleaning and recalibration! What a fantastic idea that was!

I got them back in pristine condition. Flow tested, they were both below 440CCs! Clogged and uncontrolled sprays. Two of the injectors I sent down were leaking, the other pair worked out and are now sitting in a functional engine.

Bodywork time.

When I bought the car two years ago to begin restoring it, I was aware of some surface rust on the door panels around the keylocks. That didn't bother me at all. I bought the car with the understanding that the rear wheel wells were in tact and didn't have any rust. I took a good long look at them when I bought it, and with the undercoating in tact they didn't appear to have any problems

Let this be a word of advice though: Pull the carpets and bins out to look at that rear wheel well. Because it had been undercoated, I assumed it was in good shape. It was simply hiding rust that was occurring UNDER the undercoat, and on the inside of the rear bin.

So, two years later - the rust progressed without my knowledge since the car was in storage, and when I took it out this year.. flop goes the rust onto the ground.

This is what we started with. That's the drivers side. We got extremely lucky that around the bushing on the back there, it was all surface rust and was easily cleaned off with the grinder. Another year or so would have gotten structural.

We took a torch and heated up the undercoat on the well and took a puddy knife to it and it scraped right off. Way easier then expected:

While doing that, we found ANOTHER hole of rust starting higher up on the wheel well. Since I had lots of brand new steel, figured we might as well repair that too:

We then cut out the main rust hole into the bin and cut it bigger to get to stronger healthier metal. We then ground off the rust, pushed back the undercoat and got this:

Using cardboard as a form, we cut out a new peice of steel in the shape that we traced on the card board:

We then went ahead and began to drill some holes for the MIG Welder to bite into and create some spot welds. We then sprayed the entire piece in a zinc weld through primer.

So: the nearly finished product! All welded up, drip checked and sealed.

Tuesday, we do the passenger side, scrape off the undercoating completely on both, sand and grin both wells down to perfectly clean metal, POR 15 both sides, and then fresh undercoat for noise and rust protection!!
