Ya hate to wish this on anyone, but I can hardly wait for the first RX8 that gets totaled in this area that arrives at my favorite boneyard...sure, the engine will be a little pricey, but 250 HP N/A and pass emissions? Schweet!! And shut up about converting harnesses to run the ECU and FI, it's the sideports that makes the thing emission friendly...I'm gonna carb the beast....hell, the '80s will be exempt anyway by the time UltiRex hits the road....

Don't they count the emissions standard to be based on the engine year, not the chassis... maybe thats only here in UT

Carb it? Come on, if you go the renesis way, go all out Keep the RX8 stuff, I'd say. Or try to get hol of the Mazda star racing stuff.
It's not just the sideports that get the thing emmission friendly BTW, it's the whole concept. The side exhaust ports are the main thing, of course, but there's mor to it. Well, can always try to run a Haltech or Wolf on it
That's if you can find a totalled RX8 first....

My thoughts exactly...

People are going to get these, drive 'em for a week, smoke a tree, and then go "Damn, that was nice while it lasted, I think I'll get a new one with my collision insurance money..." And so starts the endless (until Mazda quits making them) cycle of the RX-8 boneyard excursion...

The Star Formula Mazda RENESIS engines are detuned to 240 HP. It's still 40 more than what they are currently making with the carb.

TJ, Why? One half is already the same of the 12A, and we finaly can stop having nightmares about emmissions... :-)

Check out the sensor and teeth. I haven't seen anything like this on an automobile engine before.

I got the Privelage of seeing the RX-8 close up on the Weekend at the Big Boys Toys show here in NZ.

No one could get very close to in tho. Mazda arrived somtime in the night with it and set it up in a locked enclosure. I asked the Mazda reps that were there if they could get into there, but Mazda New Zealand had the only key to the compound.

Its being released here in 2003 sometime, the guy was saying he'd taked 4 deposits already and it had only been on display for about 7 hours.

Yeah.... I'm surprised they can close the hood on it. Speaking of which, have you seen the pictures of the RX-8's open hood? They have a big 'ol plastic cover over the whole engine. It's a shame becuase anyone with interest is gonna wanna check out that "crazy wankel engine".
