ok..so last night im driving back home and the gearbox is geting louder the longer i drive it..

by the time i'm home, 2nd gear is whining BAD. so i sleep on it..this morning i go to drain the tranny fluid, and just as predicted..i dont get half a quart. so...i put in some royal purple and go to drive it. everything seems fine...doesn't clash as much going into reverse, no more 2nd gear whine...alright then.

so i'm driving into town and begin to smell...royal purple. then notice a whisp of smoke coming out from under the car at a stop light...GREAT. i continue driving and blam, speedo dies. tranny is still shifting fine otherwise...i pull over and its drip drip dripping from the front of the transmission.

so i'm left with this...

replace front seal(if thats what it is), OR
swap in my 12A transmission from my 85 12A

 

Just replace the seal and check the clutch assembly, it probably needs degreased. If the 12a tranny is known to be in much better condition, you may want to switch.

 

gah..i may just wait until next weekend and just swap transmissions. i have to drive this car to work tomorrow...

and it's been low on fluid for who knows how long, one more week aint gonna kill it.
