Missing Solenoids?

I took my 84 GS to a car shop, as I really don't know a whole lot about 7s.
I guess there's a total of 8 solenoids, the most important being the leading and trailing. WHERE DO I START?

the leading and trailing are either the plugs, wires or coils. there's a leading plug for each rotor (in addition to the trailing or top plug), a leading and trailing coil, and subsequently a leading and trailing wire set for each ignition. the solenoids are for emissions and air conditioning.

there are a total of six solenoids (in a row) on the emissions rack. there are color coded by connector. would you like a pic?

3) download the FSM and wiring diagram for your model (or the closest year, if your exact one isn't list.
4) start readin'.

Wealth of info there, free for the asking, that you used to have to shell out big bucks to get.

Oh okay, well the entire row of solenoids have been pulled out. The wires that I was told come off of the leading and trailing solenoids have been wired together.
A picture would be great, yes! I don't have an air conditioner any more heh.
Is it plausible that the solenoids missing can have an effect on the drivability? (It will barely start and likes to die when not revved over 2.5k)

I guess, to make myself a little more clear.. I wouldn't know what to do even if I had all of the solenoids in my hand... I'm looking for a liiittle bit of a walk through here. I went through 6 pages of "NW for sale" and was unable to find anythign relating to the solenoids..

With a bit of luck I landed myself on the diagram that includes the soleniods.. Apart from the leading trailing, and the air con(that I don't think I need any more) there's the switching, relief and shutter solenoid... What do those do and... how can I replace the necessary ones?

Sounds like you might have a vacuum leak. Make sure all of the nipples on the bottom of the carb are capped off. Maybe the previous owner attempted to remove the emission control parts. The missing solenoids would not cause your problem unless the vacuum nipples that they connected to are left un-capped. Several pics of both sides of the carb/engine might help. Is this hose still on the car? If so it can cause a large vacuum leak if damaged.
