Question Mile High RX

Just got an '85 GSL SE that until recently was in California and Texas. Now I'm way up here, and it is running very rich and backfires almost everytime I push in the clutch. I adjusted the TPS which made a bit of a difference, but enough. I'm concerned that its current settings may fail emmissions. Stock engine, exhaust.

Anyone have suggestions for someone using this great little car to learn about working on great little cars? Thanks!

The higher altitude will do just that. Theres less o2 in the air than the computer "calculates" for so more of the fuel is left unburnt and then is combusted in your exhaust. I'm don't know about the 13b... but the 12a had an alititude compensator to account for this. Looking at the Haynes it says there is an Atmospheric pressure sensor... get yourself a manual and check it it may have gone bad.

My bro's GSL-SE was adjusted to run right in Fort Collins. Then he moved to the Seattle area and it didn't run quite as well because he never messed with the R<--->L thing over by the air filter or any other tuning. I never got into it so I have no idea what he should have done to make it run better at a lower altitude.

In my current location, I have a kPa of about 99 or so a couple hundred feet above sea level. If the resolution were better on my guage, I'd say it's probably 99.8 or so because it's pretty close to 100. I'm not sure what the absolute pressure is in CO, but it might be worth looking in to.

The atomospheric pressure sensor is better known as a MAP sensor.

I just installed one to a MegaSquirt printed circuit board the other day. I pushed a straw onto it and could blow up to about 110 before it wanted to pop off the nipple. I think I sucked it down to around 80 before the straw collapsed.
