Might be buying....
Well I just recently lost my MR2 in a tragic accident, God rest her soul. And I might be interested in an 89-92 FC. I found an N/A for about $700 with a motor that is on its way to 190K. I have about $5000 to blow, what I want is a mid 13 second car that will last me assuming I don't make a stupid mistake like crashing or something. How much would this cost me? And what would I do?
First of, try the 2nd gen forum....you'll get a "better" response, because they know those years of RX-7s better.
IMO, second gen N/A's are pretty hard to get into the 13's. Compared to 1st gens (79-85) they're heavy, so it takes more power to get the times. That and 6-ports are notorious for the usual porting mods not yielding noteworth results. You'd almost have to go turbo charged, or nitrous to get 13's. Of course with 5k, you should be able to swap your NA engine for a TII, and still have some cash to slightly improve the stock TII system.

Yeah, a properly tuned TII will last you a while, even in an NA car.
If you spent $700 on the car, you'd have enough left over for a T2 engine, decent aftermarket turbo, ECU and FMIC... probably.
