Middle Shift Boot- SA vs FB
Hey all,
I'm looking to replace the middle boot on my 79, however it seems to be no longer available anywhere. How close are the FB boots in comparison to the SA? Would I be able to make the FB boot work? If anyone does know where to get them, that would be great too.
Here's what the SA one looks like for reference:

the FB boot is more square, i think you could make it work though, you can probably just cut the "turret" part out of the SA boot, and put the FB boot right on top.
google the miata one, its got something in the base, maybe you can use that instead?

You might need to get 'creative' with how the Boot will anchor to the Tranny tunnel. Mount points will not match up, at least. Plus it needs to correctly fit over the bottom boot as well (which I am guessing needs replacement at this point, if this one does...).
FWIW I have seen a few NOS Unobtainium SA TX boots avai recently on ebay.au (Australia. Just include "Worldwide" in your ebay.com search parameters). Not cheap, but nothing like a factory fit!
Fair warning here to all my SA-honchos. The SA-specific rubber bits are disappearing fast now, be it trim, seals or SA-specific hardware.
ugh.
And: if you want to max the life of your TX boots, remember to park your SA in SECOND gear. This is the position that least stresses/stretches the underlying boots!
