Megasquirted 1st gen

Has anyone ever installed a Megasquirt fuel injection computer on a first gen? I'm really considering purchasing one. I was thinking of using the lower half of a Dell intake, and a 13b throttle body, for my street-ported 12a. Also, I would modify the intake manifold for four fuel injectors, and also fabricate a fuel rail.

Anyone know of a good O2 sensor that works well with the megasquirt, and what about fuel injectors also?

I've installed the Megasquirt in my '86 rx-7. The car is stock, and was converted just to get familiar with the hardware prior to converting my '79.

The MS can be configured for high or low impedance injectors. Standard narrow-band O2 sensors (1 or 3 wire) are supported. The embedded code can easily be updated to support a wide variety of coolant and air temperature sensors as well.

Staged injection is not yet fully debugged, but conventional batch or alternate injector firing modes is now well-proven and is running in many vehicles. Programming is done via a laptop running Windoze. A Palm Pilot interface is available as well.

If you have any further questions, let me know.

The main MS site is at :

http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html

The Yahoo Groups site with a full message archive is at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/megasquirt/

The MegaSquirt FAQ, a must-read prior to posting to the group is located here:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/megasq...s/MS%20FAQ.htm

I believe the group buy is presently closed, although if interested, you should sign on to the Yahoo group and watch messages closely. The latest group buy is shipping now, and they may offer un-claimed/extra kits once all orders are filled.

If you are into electronics, you can also build your own from the circuits, board layout and parts-lists provided at the top link above.

Other than purchasing O2 sensors and a fuel pump and pressure regulator and the MS ECU, fabricating a fuel rail, and modifying the intake manifold, and finding a 13b upper intake and TB, is there any other major expenses that anyone can think of? Keep in mind I'm putting this on a carbed 12a.

If this is all that's needed, this whole project might just cost as much as my Dellorto carb, and intake ($450), which is cheap as hell for a EFI setup.

Anyone know of any good websites to help me figure what size and type of fuel injectors to use?

Ok metalliman,
This is what I'm wondering next. Would it be necessary to have 2 sets of injectors? Primarys and secondaries?

Check the GrassRoot Motorsprorts web page and look for the details on the R-spit. They set up a 13B with injection and have an article on figuring injector size.

Good luck

Sammy, as for the 12at idea, I've already got a street-ported 12a freshly rebuilt with 1100 miles, so I'm determined to use that motor. As for secondaries, I really don't know if I need them, that's why I'd like to get some information which injectors to use. I was thinking of just four used primary injectors for economical reasons. Then again, if two larger injectors are just economical, I may as well go that way.

Kill no cone, what's the addy?
