The 15x8's that are on the car now are Jeep Wrangler wheels with 225 V710's on it. They looked pretty good but the Mustang V6 wheels clear the stock suspension better.

I noticed that you are using a hybrid IRS.
I wonder why you choose this route. I am considering the use of the Ford IRS but plan on using the 8.8" rather than the 7.5" and adapting the Ford IRS subframe to the first gen. I would be interested in your reasons for the 7.5" and the second gen subframe etc. A healthy 302 has the potential to reach the torque limits of the 7.5", depending on the tires and type of use you plan for the car. Thanks for the detailed writeup on your project. I am especially looking forward to more pictures of the IRS install.

Yes, the IRS is all finished. All that is left is the axels (on the way), the front suspension (hats and studs on the way), and the brake lines. I'll be back in Clemson on the 27th and I can't wait to get that car driving. Then the hard work starts...

A few things were involved. First, there was a big discussion 2-3 years ago that GRM stated the Miata IRS "should" fit an fb. I was currious. Second, the Miata IRS is a good setup and being self contained, was an easier swap than locating control arm mounts. Third, the car was always designed to be a road racer and not a drag car. The stock FB diff turned 1.9 60' times with no issues. I figured i wouldn't be able to get enough tire under the car to matter anyway. Now, I'd probably like some stronger axels, but what are ya going to do? The FC diff was an obvious choice given the fact that it swaps right into the miata IRS. If i needed more torque, the 8.8 would be a good choice but you still need stronger axels and there would be a good bit of fab to get that diff to fit.

Looks like the guys I ordered my axels from are slack. They won't get here until Tuesday. Actually it isn't a big deal since I've been hanging out with friends and kinda working on the car as I feel like it. The front spring hats showed up from Cali, and the studs got here from Summit. I got a pair of springs from a friend here to get the car running, but I'll have a lot of tuning to do on the suspension including spring rates and shocks.

I've also finished the brakes although I still have to pressure test the system. It's gotten to the point where I'm hanging the body back on the car. Passenger door is back on and there is a seat in it now. I hope to test drive the car Wensday if all goes well, who knows. I'll try to get some pics as the car goes back together.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I would never trade my rotor for a piston but I love it. Projects like this one that are seen through and show people what can be done with a welders a lot of patience. a lot of numbers and a tape measure is hope for some one elses project. Keep us the awesome work

Wow. I have set here for the last 30 minutes or so reading over this thread. Impressive amount of work here. Hope to see the completed car someday.

Hung the body last night. Only thing left to adjust is the hood and it's held in by hood pins so that should be quick. i set the ride hight in the front also. I still have to adjust the rear, install the axels, bleed the brakes, and a bunch of other misc. things before I can drive it. Hopefully I'll be taking it for a spin tomorrow if things go well today. At the very least, if the brakes work, I'll get to back it out of the garage and maybe drive it around the apartment complex. You know there will be videos and pictures.

Please ignore how dirty the car is. I'll get to that eventually. Also, the axles finally showed up today, and they were the wrong ones. Freaking figures. New ones should be here Monday, which probably means never.
