Mazda Remanufactured

Anybody buy a mazda reman. from mazda and had them install it. I know this is risky but just wondering how much it cost and the labor they wanted? I have a 79 and am toying with the idea just to get a stock reman. from revolution rotary or mazda or gp TII but don't want to spend the extra cha ching on fuel computer and rear end and u know the saying MORE MONEY MORE MONEY!!!

I got a mazda reman, and they installed it also....If i could do it again, i would have gone to a Rx7 shop and have gotten a ported motor put in for the same price or even cheaper....While there they scratched my rims and they didn't install airbox properly (-SE model) and then a bolt got sucked into the intake and lucky for me was stopped by the betterflies, but it locked my throttle at 100% so i could have easily blown my motor if i hadn't been paying attention.... So if you can, AVOID them!!

The Mazda reman motors themselves are great.. pricey, but you know you're getting good stuff. I've known many people who've gone that way to get a new engine, especially if their current one needs a couple new parts (rotor, housing etc) because that adds up fast.

The install is totally dependant upon who is doing it. You can have a wide variety of luck there, you'll just have to do your research.

I used to do a lot of Mazda Remanufactured motor swaps... Id charge around $300 to do the job, dealer charged 10 hours at $55/hr (this was like 5 years ago) The motors also used to go for $950 + $500 core. Now they are like $1600!!!! not including core...

But anways, the motors were fine, and I never had a bad one out of the crate, or heard anyone that I put one in for bitch about it

I bought my motor from Mazda. They are excellent motors, rebuilt in USA. At the time I bought mine it was 1250 for the block for a 12A in 1995. Last I checked they were 1850 in 1998.

Here's the deal with buying a rebuild, the prices aren't the same at every delaership. They pay the same but the markup depends on the owner.

When I went to buy an engine I asked the parts counter at Norco Mazda in CA they wanted 2200. I asked the pars counter at Quaid in Riverside and it was 1250. I went out to the repair department at Quaid and they quoted me 2000k for the block plus 2200 for install. I asked him why the engine cost 800 bucks more 50 feet from the pars counter and he walked away.

Anyways, you can negotiate. Just talk to the manager and negotiate a good price.

Here's what I got when I bought my engine:

New seals everywhere. New rotor housings. The only parts that were used were the front/middle and back prieces and the rotors/e-shaft. All the parts that wear were brand spanking new. I still have that engine today and it runs perfect.

Just buy one and pay a mechanic to install it. My warranty was 12mo/unlimited miles from the dealer.

I too have heard a lot of people complain and I wonder why they do. My experience with Atkins was absolutely phenominal. The engine has about 22K miles on it and boy does it run great! It still sounds as good as it did when I first turned the key after the installation.

I have a Mazda re-built 12A that I bought used several years ago. It has had over 75,000 miles of hard driving, including track events, with zero problems. Do the installation yourself, cleaning up the emmisions garbage. It's a decent, manageable project.
