On my new 85 rx7 GSL-SE that I got I know it needs a master cylinder but the guy also let me part out his other first gen rx7. It had a good master cylinder on it. I was wondering if it will work on my 85? I know the parts car was a 2 wheel disc car and my 85 is 4 wheel disc. I know there is a difference. So I started to look for a new master some places say all first gens use the same master but I don`t know if that's right or not. Also I will post some pictures of the car when I get a chance. It only has 103000 miles on the car. Also I know some of you guys on here helped me out on how to do a compression test on the rotary engine. Thanks for the all the help on that.

 

yes i have read that brake master cylinders for disc in front and drums in the back work for all disc brake systems.

Although the master cylinders may bolt up and work there is a reason why they are different between a disc and a drum system.

Because this is a "Safety" issue the official answer is do not use a drum master cylinder and a vehicle that has disc brakes. :-)

I don't know where you have looked for a replacement part but you can clearly see that the 84-85 models use a different one from the earlier discs and is different from the drum brake applications.
