Major Problems with my 85 GSL

This is my first post here and i was hoping someone could help.

This Rx-7 has been in my family since i was 15 (in now 24) and has sat, mostly due

to one problem after another. The car is all stock with the 12 A carb set up.

The last time it was at the shop a few years ago they said the carb was rebuilt

a month later the car would not start no matter what u did. After a period on

sitting witch i know is the death of most Rotary engines i decided to look at it

again this past summer. I checked the compression by ear and cleaned the plugs

and checked the ignition system. i bypassed the gas tank knowing it would have

to be boiled out. After 2 days i got it started (i dont know how i just know it too

alot of starter fluid)it ran smooth no odd sounds it just wouldnt idle i had to keep

my foot on the gas. I went back two days later and there was gas in the oil. Is the

engine shot? or could it be the oil pump or a seal that needs to re seat ?

Id appreciate any help on this id hate to get ride of the car because its in perfect

condition body wise heck the ac still works.

No its common for these cars to smell like they have gas in the oil after sitting for awhile, Just give her a fresh oil change and possibly a good tune up depending on how long shes been siting.

Sounds like you just have a little vacuum leak. It's pretty rare that after the car sat so long you didn't have any other problems. It's always great to hear of an FB on the East coast with a good body.
Where about are you located? I'm in NY.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply now im hoping since i havent done much to it since aug its still ok. I really dont know why it still runs i couple of year back an uncle read about useing transmission fluid to un stick the apex seals but it still wouldn't start. It acts like it wants too it cranks and sputters then dies again. I knwo one of the vac pumps (the big one on fron left of the carb is dead but i havent been able to find a replacement. As for the car the body is good just again my uncle too the font end off to have a couple spots on the fenders redone other than that the topcoat is just faded on the roof around the sun roof . I live one the border between West Virginia and Ohio but the car was originally from Missouri . All i know is its had a ruff life my parent bought for me for 1200 bucks from a guy who won in it a poker game.

When a rotary floods, it can be a real bitch to get it started again. One of the sypmtoms of flooding is a lot of gas in the oil.

If this was my car, I'd dump some seafoam down the carb while rotating the motor by hand, then let is sit overnight. The seafoam will break up any carbon that may be causing stuck apex seals, and will also clean up your spark plugs and help the motor get going again. Good luck...
