im talking about the screen that slides into the inlet side of the fuel pump. you simply pull the line off and pull the screen out. Im assuming you are talking about the sock that goes over the fuel pickup tube (i guess these cars have them, i dunno, havent dropped my tank). My problem was never a clog inside the tank, it was at the inlet side of the pump. that little tiny screen clogs up in no time. I bigger inline fuel filter has more surface area to clog before it restricts the flow enough to cause performance problems. ive been running mine for about 3 months now with **** in the tank and the filter is still ok, ill probably change it at the next oil change. they only cost a few bucks anyways. basically it allows the tank to just filter itself clean.

My mistake----you did say that. I'm assuming that Advance Auto or Autozone would have this, right? Was there any specific part # that you use?

all I did was cut a very short peice of the line off to match the ID size up with the filter and got a generic one on the shelfs. I used two screw on hose clamps to secure it. I ran across a thread/writeup on fuel filters a couple days ago on here where someone had used a pedastal mount fuel filter in the back. Im sure it was probably on a 12a car, but it was a nice spin on filter setup and would be perfect for what we are talking about too. If im not mistaked, the total cost from carquest was less than 40 bucks and the filters went down to 7 microns (which im SURE is much better than the plastic universals at autozone. Im going to convert to this setup when i service the car this next go around (in about 1500 miles). I figure a few sheetmetal screws to mount the pedastal just behind the fuel pump bracketry up near the pressure side fuel filter, and some extra fuel lines to get the routing right, and it should be good to go. I would probably just change the filter every other oil change or something like that. with filtration like that, youd probably never have to change the expensive high pressure filter again.
