Buy the seats, but only for the look, having a 3 year old back there with no seatbelt is just crazy...

I can attest to the fact that they have belts. I have one with rear seats; but I'm not convinced I want to go back to compartments yet. If you got the right car seat I think it would actually work ok to put it back there.

I've got one in my shed, complete with the belts and rear hatch cover. I was going to throw it away as I'm making it a two-seater.
You're welcome to pick it up I believe Air New Zealand flies twice a day from Los Angeles to Auckland.

Please post some pictures of the rear cargo cover. I have never seen one in a 1st gen and that is the main reason I am not using my rear seat.
Thanks

The Australian Spec Gen 1 Rx7s were all 4 Seaters.
The Rear Seats have seat belts (Inertia reel on the Series 3) and there were child seat anchor points in the rear cargo area (to attach baby seats to).
The Rear seats fold down to have a flat cargo area similar to what a US Spec Gen 1 would look like.
Here is a link to an Aussie Rotary Forum site were a guy is selling a Series 3 rear seat (with pictures).

These seats seem to be so rare in the US but in Aus there must be hundreds of them sitting in wrecks and part cars. Also lots of guys seem to pull them out and replace them with speaker boxes ---- One man's trash is another man's treasure!!!

Why shouldnt i post, my SA doesnt have rear seat belts, or any mounting points for seatbelts!
In fact, there was no law against not having seatbelts before 1980 over here, so very few old cars have seatbelts over here in Europe. My car comes fra Canada, has no seatbelts, so i made the asumption that the situation was the same for you over in the USA. So there, thats my 2 cents.

Morten,
You may not recognise them, but your car does have the mounting point for rear seatbelts.
When you don't have them they may have been removed if your inner rear wheel arches have been welded because of rust.

Im pretty sure i dont have them. the car has never been welded in any way, but if you could describe exactly where they are located i will take a closer look..
I sense that i am going to be owned here..
