Looking for headlight lid/assembly specs for a custom applicaton

I bought a highly modified widebody Porsche 928. It has slant nose fender with what I have been told are 1st Gen RX7 headlight buckets. The light they throw is horrible and the motor/mechanism is unreliable and problematic. Due to the sealed fender area and the relocated radiator and such for the supercharger, it would be a monumental task to return them to stock 928 type flip up lights. So, I'd like to find something, as plug and play as possible to replace them. I'm interested in some sort of fixed lamp solution, possibly halogen projector, but I am open to whatever gives me the best lighting solution.

What I'm looking for is some confirmation that these are in fact from a 1st Gen, maybe verification by sight from my pics, but also measurements of known lids. The attached pics show the open bucket in the fender, as well as with the lights installed and the lids closed. I'd be interested in any available turnkey solutions and any custom solutions.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Lots of views, but not a lot of comments - so here goes...

First off, welcome aboard. I know you're only here to find headlight options and then you'll disappear, but wanted to take a minute and welcome you to the forum. The headlight lids look to be the correct shape as a 1st Gen RX7 headlight lid, but without measurements, none of us could be certain. That said, there are a number of aftermarket headlight modifications that usually involve building a set of smaller lights and then creating the lift design so they pop up just enough. In fact, the 3 bolt holds shown in your second picture look to be nearly the same mounts as a 1st Gen stock headlight hinge mechanism. Unsure where the motor mechanism with it's 2 lift arms (per side) would go, but even having the hinges in the right place might save you some fabrication.

I don't know of anyone that makes a drop-in 1st Gen aftermarket light kit - so what you're looking for may be custom built. Your first picture shows both lids closed, and if you have the mechanisms in place today, just look at fabbing up some cardboard that's the right size for fitment and take them to a machineshop or welder to have them made in sheet aluminum or steel. It shouldn't cost that much, and that relies on you finding a set of headlights that meet your needs. Good luck,

I've seen Porsche 928 widebody kits that use RX-7 headlights so it's very possible you have one of those.

Thanks! I talked with the car builder and he confirmed Rx7 parts, unmodified lid and custom brackets underneath for the lenses. He used cheap foglight projector lenses, so that's part of my problem.

I measured the space and dry fit a spare 60mm lens I had to see if I could just mount the lenses fixed and have clearance over the front of the fender and bumper and still be able to put some sort of Lexan or glass cover over them flush with the fender, but only they would have to stick up a couple inches above the fender to have the entire light available. So, I think I'll just try to replace the lenses with Hella 60mm high and low, better bulbs, and replace the motor mechanism with something more reliable. I think there is a Fiat coupe solution with bubble tops for raised lenses, but I don't want to have to modify that to fit the opening.

Thanks for any and all help. I ended up buying a flush headlight kit from Blacktie Motors, but it didn't fit to my liking. I only ended up using 2 of the lenses, so the rest is available if anyone is interested.

I posted them for sale in the forum and will move that to the classifieds as soon as I have access.
