You could just ask me...haha. It's the Erebuni kit that was, AFAIK, available as an option from the factory -- it includes both the front air dam and the spoiler. You can order similar parts from Black Dragon Automotive.

No problem! Yeah the Mariah kits are nice but yes very expensive. I opted to paint the air dam and fender flares flat black:

Black dragon screwed over my order once and send it to some guy in Brazil. They made it a HUGE pain to try and get my order right and tried charging me twice. A lot of the stuff they have can be found elsewhere for cheaper.

If you were closer to where I live, we could probably knock this out in a couple weekends...haha.
Don't tease me! I would gladly take it and let the fiance drive my car. She wants it so bad. Postpone going to Florida.

If I were closer that thing would be done already and I would be taking notes for my car! I am really interested in your engine set up. That is my next move, but it'll be a while. Being in college sucks sometimes.

I'm entertaining postponing the drive down. That would just mean taking an additional car when the plan was to just take one! We'll see as it gets closer. Even if my car wasn't finished I would love to go just to experience everything. I might feel at home at a car show for the first time in my life!

I recently graduated and that has given me the extra time necessary to devote to this project. Tech sucked up every waking moment...and I worked full time for my last year there. School is definitely more important.

My Black Dragon order came in. I don't know if I'll be able to return the brake lines given their strict return policy language, so I might just have to put them in the for sale section. Billy informed me that my ReSpeed order is in progress so I should see those items next week.

In order to get the final space limitations for my new manifold, I need to drop the motor in, but I want to wait until the suspension is somewhat final. The arrival of the front brake hardware kit (in addition to the two I already have...) gets me the v-clips I need to keep the brake pads in their proper area.

I need lugnuts -- who knew they were so damn expensive? And even though Rishie sent me a set of hubcentric rings, they got lost in the tire-mounting process. I'll need a new set of them as well.

My M needs new rotors and pads installed, which I've ordered, but they may not be in this weekend so I should be able to finalize the rear brake setup on Lucy (the 7). What's the best tool to use to compress the spring in Billy's rear brake kit? Everything is mounted and ready to go but but the parking brake spring is a PITA. I just need to pick up the proper tool I s'pose.

Luckily my experiences with them have gone well! I will have to return the brake lines, but I don't know if they will accept them or not. At least the brake hardware kit I got has everything I need in it whereas my previous 2 orders from dealerships came up empty.

Needle nose pliers or vice grip.
Shove the ends through the spring, compress the spring back against the bracket, clamp down on the cable wire (lightly) to hold the spring compressed while you put it where you want it.

I tried a clamp but I felt like a fumbling, uncoordinated idiot trying to get it to work. Needle nose pliers ought to do it. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the encouragement. I've been very tempted by spare S62 (V8 from the E39 M5) blocks but I've held out for a good reason.

It looks like my suspension components should be coming in this week. Now to find a place to weld...

Hang in there. My project lasted two years, which doesn't sound all that long -- but that's partially because I began prepping for it about 5 years beforehand (TII tranny, relocated battery, etc.). In the end, it was definitely worth the trip. I ended up with the same car I always loved, but now it's fast and handles better. I live on a hilly, curvy road; driving it is as much fun as riding a rollercoaster.

Well I successfully returned the brake lines to Black Dragon and I received all the parts for the ReSpeed race coilover setup. Today I cut off and ground down the stock spring perches.

Now to find a competent welder to put the new ones on...

I've sourced a welder and it looks like the perches will be in place on Monday.

Getting closer .

I got the struts back from the welder today and they look impressive. I'm going on vacation starting Saturday so I probably won't be able to finish bolting everything up until a week from Sunday, but here's to hoping that the potential for tire rubbing will be eliminated...

Now off to pack some reading material...I'm thinking about meth/water injection...

very nice project so far, definatly look forward to the finished production, though sometimes it seems that people are never done trying to improve the performance of their car

It's been awhile, so here's an update.
  • I've purchased a Bosch 044 to use in conjunction with a Walbro 255 (which I've had from the beginning). The Walbro will feed my surge tank and the Bosch will supply the rails.
  • I picked up an Aquamist HFS-5 and an RX-7 "Summer" module.
  • I've installed the coilovers, barring the top adjustment nut which I cannot torque even with the best Snap-On cordless. I'll have to take it to the shop to get this done.
  • The front brakes are back on the car, now with new caliper mounting bolts (thanks Billy). The ReSpeed SS lines are also connected.

This week, I'm going to finish the rear brakes. I wanted to find a scatter shield to put on the transmission before putting the motor back in, but I don't know if that's possible considering that I haven't been able to find one. Once the motor is in, I'm sending the mock-up tubular manifold I have out to A-Spec to get re-worked.

Nice coil over setup! Defantly something im looking at doing to my track car.
Hey, you dont mind posting up some more pics of your car??
ive bought the zg flares for mine a while ago as i would like to fit some large rubber under the arches, but qurious to see how they are mounted? Did you encounter any problems putting the flares on? Mine are just damn bloody wide so i just need to squeeze them a bit to fit around the arch nicely..
Cheers!

Not quite done with the flares yet -- they don't *exactly* match the contour of the body but with a simple touch can be formed to the body and screwed into place. I will have some more shots of these once they are mounted properly. I'm not expecting them to be perfect simply because I'm not a body technician by any means!

Chad, I do not have a source for the scatter shield. We could alway go custom.

Let's do it. I'm going to trailer the car up to you so you can give it an inspection . I'm not there yet though -- but when I am, maybe we can schedule something.

Ever since I saw DirectFreak's clutch explode, I thought it would be wise for me to take appropriate safety measures!
