Live, From Ft. Leonard Wood, MO
So, as you all know I left you all for basic training in lovely Ft. Leonard Wood, MO to becopme a Military Police soldier. Well, after time spent here I can only tell you that its not that lovely .
Its funny that I finally got access to a computer for the first time since Ive been here and now that I do I have almost nothing to say. I used to constantly think about what I would say given the chance, but now that I have it, Ive got nothing. Oh well, life sucks.
Anyway, Im gonna cut this short, but just to let you all know Ill be leaving here and flying home in about 26 days, wahoo!
So, until I have time to actually brouse and see whats up, I guess Ill talk to you all later!
Take it easy,
~T.J.
PS - Who the heck are all these new people... So much has changed...
PPS - No FB's here as of yet, but Ive seen two 8's on post...

Hey TJ
Miss your posts TJ.
Was wondering a few days ago how you were doing in the military.
I think it was a good move for you. One doesn't always like what's good for them.

Hey TJ, welcome back and congrats! I hope you're not at a loss for words when you get back. I know I-for-one can't wait to hear about your adventure.

Congratulations. I did 5 months at Fort Lost in the Woods, back in early 1991. I injured my leg in the last week of regular basic training, so I was bumped from Airborne school at Benning and ended up re-classifying as a Combat Engineer...meaning I got to graduate basic, sit on my *** for a month at Ft Leonard Wood, then pack my things, move across base, and jump into the 5th week of Combat Engineer school (13 week OSUT program). Anyone tells you normal basic training is the same as "combat" basic training, slap them! And OSUT adds 5 weeks to the "fun". So, in total, I did 16 weeks of training, plus that month of recuperation inbetween. Anyhow, I got to really hate that place. Snowing when I arrived and 98 degrees with 99% humidity when I left. Then I got orders to a great post in germany...but after one year, my unit was shut down and I got transfered to the only place worse that Leonard Wood: Wildflecken, Germany. Cold, isolated mountain-top post a few miles from the former East German boarder. And to top it off, my sadistic Combat Engineer School First Sergeant (it wasn't an act) turned out to be my sadistic Sergent Major at Wildflecken. On the other hand, I got into a special unit assigned directly to NATO, called the Allied Mobile Force (Land), so we spent 30 days every other month in some cool place like Turkey or Itally, doing special training.
As someone else said, don't listen too much to the gripes of your fellow soldiers. Everyone gripes a bit, for some very good reasons, but it's nothing you can control and the benefits usually outweigh the drawbacks if you keep things in persective. Oh, and be sure to take advantage of your situation whenever possible. I knew guys in Germany who NEVER left post! Idiots. While they were crying in their (American) beer on post, I was out drinking (german) beer with the locals or taking weekend tours of Switzerland, France, Belgium, etc. Even posts in the US have advantages...find and exploit them. Oh, and when you get out, use the GI Bill to go to college. College is quite a fun place after doing time in the military! You have enough residual discipline to keep the grades up while still having more fun than any student should be allowed...I managed to hold down three jobs, go to school full time and party just about every night and still graduate with Honors with two majors (Business and Economics). The only reason I could do that was because it was SOOOO much easier than the Army. Just do it right away because I found that motivation fades away after a few years.
Again, congratualtions!
