Lightest FB w/o fully gutted interior?

Was trying to search for some weight numbers on lightened FBs but I couldnt find anything at all. Best thing I found was i **** on hondas being a jackass flaming someone for wanting a CF hood.

Would appreciate if anyone could post their car weights and list any mods that reduced weight (including exhaust, etc)

Trying to figure out the lightest that a FB can get w/ seats, door panels and dash w/ some lightweight carpet and full glass. Or just get a good idea

Thanks,
Ben Martin

my 84 gs was just under 2200 lbs with no p/s, a/c, and removed only the rear bins from the interior. i had full exhaust w/ rb headers. it's now compleeetely gutted, tarpaper and all w/ only a dash, under 2000lbs. BUT NOT WORTH IT! car rattles like a bitch and doesnt feel that much faster. does stop quicker and handles a little tighter my 83 is 2320 w/ only the p/s and a/c removed. WOOT!

my black '84 Rx7 GS came in at 2200lbs mostly full interior, no ps, a/c, more than half tank of gas. really all that was gone was spare tire.

we'll see how the 13b weighs, carbed and interior stripped from the seats back.

Race car

Not that it matches your request, but........

Still working on going down in weight - 2010 in EP race trim with no driver. I'm betting my cage weighs more than any interior. We're allowed down to 2050 with driver in 12a cars. I weigh 270, so I would need to get to 1780 to be at the legal minimum!!!!! I don't think thats going to happen.

Unless you're 9'7", or can pull a bus up a hill, I would work on dropping a couple of lbs off yourself first.

Porker.
2750lbs with S5 TII motor/trans,SE rearend,full interior,4 point and widebody.
The full fiberglass frontend helps a bit with forward weight and I have the Optima in the pass. bin.
Wheels are superlight and the RP steering shaved a few lbs too.
I still beat a stock S5 TII by 250lbs.

The 13B,turbocharger and TII trans add some weight over the stock GS drivetrain.Plus my big 12" iron front brake rotors, strutbars, fat driveshaft, rear glass fenders over the stock fenders and of course the 4 point rollbar. That all together is a lotta heavy metal.

The Mariah widebody completly replaces the stock steel fenders up front,as well as the entire front bumper assembely. All that remains is a 2-3lb aluminum bar that spans the 2 bumper shocks. The fiberglass airdamn mounts to that, and both together weigh substantially less than the stock plastic/aluminum/steel bumper.

My '83 GS with removed a/c, insulation, stripped rear cargo area, spare/jack, stereo, etc. About all that it has are a sunroof and power mirrors Also has full RB exhaust and a mikuni carb which weighs about 1/2 what the stock carb weighs. I've never had it weighed, but I don't expect it's very heavy.

By the way, does anybody have lexan/polycarbonate window replacements? I remember seeing some, but I can't find where they were. They were much lighter and suprisingly inexpensive.

i just put on the rb full exhaust and i must of lost about 50 lbs. The stock exhaust with the thermal reactor, heat exchanger, air pump, etc. weighs a ton!!

How does the weight of an SA compare to that of an FB? are they lighter?

Light Weight 84 GSL ????

My car weighs 2550 lbs fully serviced without fuel, using very accurate electronic scales. I have a sunroof, electric windows and full interior, no AC or Power steer.

I did remove a few minor items, including the original 12A engine and automatic trans, the exhaust, hubs and brakes, and AC.

These items were replaced with a Ford 5.0 V8, automatic overdrive trans (that's heavy), Precision Industries torque converter (that is small and light), separate transmission cooler, single 3 inch exhaust, strut braces and 1990 5-bolt hubs and brakes, which add a few pounds because of the big discs. My point is that the only thing that added significant weight is the tranny, which weighs about 180 pounds.

With aluminum heads, intake, water pump and radiator, the engine installation is about the same weight as the original 12A, with its heavy exhaust. A Chevy 350 would be about 75 pounds heavier.

I know some of you think a V8 will screw up the handling because of "all that added weight", so I thought you might like to know that is a myth, assuming you choose the right V8 and use the right parts. To put it in perspective, if you have your girl friend in the passenger seat of your stock GSL, it will weigh within 50 pounds of mine (my car, not my girl friend!)
