Lexan Rear Glass

I posted this in the for sale section, but wanted to make a note of it here, since this question comes up a lot.

We have polycarbonate rear hatch glass replacements that are vaccuum molded so the contours are identical to the stock glass.

If anybody is interested, PM me.

From my personal experience, it does fog up, but not as bad as glass. I would not recommend these for street use if you live in a climate where it freezes because an ice scraper will pemanently mar the surface.

Cool, thanks for the info.

How heavy is the lexan piece compared to the glass?

Yeah, I would be very very interested if you could post up some pictures and more information. Does it bolt in, or rivet somehow? Can you use the stock latch? How much weight savings does this thing provide?

Thanks...

Yeah, I think one of the biggest questions is the weight savings... That damn hatch is heavy!

I'll have to weigh them to see the actual savings. By feel, my guess is it's at least 10lbs, but I'll get more accurate numbers tonight.

They are made from material that is approx. 1/8" thick.

As far as tinting is concerned, I have no idea. These were really intended for racing purposes.

They are not drilled for for the stock hinges and latches, so you'd have to do that yourself, but since they are dimensionally the same as the stock glass (other than thickness) they should be easy to attach to the stock parts.

I don't have any pictures right now, but I'll take some and post them ASAP.

Thanks! This sounds like a viable option for a lot of the weight-conscious racers out there...

Will the Lexan sscratch with the rear wipper too? Seems to me it would get dirt on it and scratch really bad after a short time.

this is more of a race thing. If you've got a street car, and you need the rear wiper, you won't be worried that much about the weight savings.
