less noise without loosing performaces

ok.. i have a racing beat header, right to a generic high flow catalytic converter, 2 1/4" piping.. to a ractive, dual outlet muffler. this **** is loud, and i got pulled for it last night but he let me off because i told him i was trying to get it fixed and it has a catalytic converter and muffler. is there anyway to quiet it down any? without spending a **** load of money. such as a resinator? (not sure how much those are)

Define "a **** load of money". When I did my exhaust the first time, I at least had the RB header and pre-silencer (just so I didnt have to make any custom pipes and it would bolt straight up to the connecting pipe), out to the stock connecting pipe, and then to a ricer muffler I got for free. Man was that mother loud. I even tried the stock muffler trying to quiet it down, but to no avail. I ended up borrowing money from my Mom and sunk it into a RB muffler. I love that thing .

RB muffler will do the trick nicely.

I'm with SR. You still hear the steady hum of the rotary exhaust, but far more quiet than other aftermarket mufflers. Of course, in my system I have their presilencer too, which undoubtedly helps.

In my (admittidly limited) experience with aftermarket stuff, Ractive is more about cosmetic bits than functional parts. I wouldn't expect that their muffler is as good as the Power Pulse muffler available through RB.

i was trying to aviod spending a **** load of money (keeping it under $350) and i spent almost $500. i guess you get what you pay for though.. so i should just sink the money into a powerpulse muffler? the only reason i bought the ractive muffler is because it retailed at ~$180, and i got it for $109, brand new. so i jumped on it. (the dual outlet helped alot too)

anyone know the pipe dia. before the muffler that comes on it?

1.75" before then the muffler pipe is 2.25"....I think?? That's in the single.

If you're going to get the power pulse, there's a full exhaust on ebay that you might be able to get for slightly more than just a new muffler. I remember when I had a high flow catalytic converter on my car - it helped a lot in quieting things down, I'd suspect you're still within legal limits.

Onepointone,

You have to remember that the rotary's exhaust is brutally harsh on mufflers, and can melt regular glasspack mufflers real fast. I don't know the details of your Ractive, but I wouldn't be holding out on it to last a crazy long time. Personally I'd be wondering about any generic cat too, I've heard of them wearing out fast as well. The RB muffler is made specifically for the RX-7, and it shows. They last FOREVER. And they're the quietest and nicest sounding around IMO, in terms of high flow street mufflers. Sure they're pricey, but you won't be replacing it after 2 years and IMO it's worth every penny.

The inlets for the different RB mufflers are exactly the same as whatever year stock connecting pipe you're using - mine is twin 1.75inch for my 82. So if you have a stock connecting pipe coming from your cat, or equivalent size piping, you should be cool, or I'm sure an exhaust shop could fix you up.

I'm in the same boat as Manntis - I've had 2 different RB setups, and I know friends with other ones, but I've never heard one without the presilencer. So I can't say how well the muffler will do without it. But with the whole RB system, you will definitely have the results you're looking for - it's a great system.

All I know is I installed the RB system (header, presilencer, and PP muffler) and even women were admiring the car, saying things like "I like the way your car purrs"

Do you get noise coming out from underneath your car or is it nice and low from the exhaust. I just installed the same system and it sounds like it's leaking, but it's not.

How do you stand the damn fumes? I'm thinking of getting a high-flow cat in place of the connecting pipe, to help things out. Headaches are no fun.

Right on.

Nothing underneath my car - just out the tailpipe. not bad for fumes.

Maybe you have a bad gasket?

Rotary engine exhaust fumes will seriously freak'n hurt ya. I installed a high-flow cat on mine and lo and behold no more headaches.

Did you install it in place of the stock connecting pipe? How did it hurt performance?

I don't know why I am getting noise underneath but I would like to figure it out, it sucks. The fumes suck worse. The backfires are horrible. This RB exhaust system was the first test, sort of the guinea pig, as to weather I would keep this car. So far it's not living up to the task. I know I'll miss it, but I don't want two cars, and don't want to be braindead after a year of driving this one. Yesterday I got a ticket for speeding, a ticket for expired inspection, and a ticket from wrong address on license. I can fix em all, but I only have ten days to get the inspection, and it's going to be difficult with a header, no cats, no airpump, fumes, and the leaky noise. It might be time to get a new car.

no way man, austin doesnt have emissons testing yet does it? just take it to the most ghetto lookin place around and you'll be ok. as for the speeding, that could have happened in any car, its not se's fault hehe. id say check the gaskets and make sure everythings tight because both rb setups ive had didnt leak at all and the only fumes i had went to tailgaters.
good ole blown oil control o ring in my old car muhahahaha! i could rev it to about 7.5k and then let the clutch in real quick so thje rpms dropped to idle. sucker smoked like the batmobile
cant sell it til we duel the brown mounds!

What is the "full name" of this RB muffler and where can you get it?
