I'll take a pic later and post it up here. 'Tis a thing of beauty, indeed.

That old thing? Nawww, that's the 79 spare.

wow, an original spare

i got one too. Its been sitting in the hatch for about 26 years and it's the best wheel and tire i got. the wheel definetly looks like it's painted

i have the same tread pattern on my spare too!

I have taken wheels from my car with the tires on them and have thrown them into a wheelabrator, which is a large bead shot machine, and have perfectly clean wheels. I do this about once a year and keeps them perfect. A lot of factories use these machines to finish parts before coating or painting. Find a friend that works at a place that has one, I go where my brother works! lol

Maybe this will be of interest-
attached is a pic of 3 of the 4 SA alloy wheels mazda sold on the 79-80 model. I chased down a set of each over the years, plus 2 new spares-on-silver-waffle rims. The other pic is my ride with the 4th type, the Gold waffle rim, which is the only one of the bunch that is painted. Of the others, only the so-called (by me) "type-3" has black paint within the spokes, so it and the Gold should not be dunked or scrubbed with anything that would remove the paint. The other 2 are bare metal, no coatings.
Thanks for the note on the Eagle cleaner! I will give it a shot on the unpainted rims
