lack of air in the combustion chambers?
Just put on a racing beat header, powerpulse presilencer, and powerpulse muffler, but the header glows? However, the replaced stock exhaust system had no problems, especially no glowing reactor etc. In addition the muffler is spitting out small amounts of uncombusted gasoline.
Could the glowing header be caused by lack of air? This would cause the air/fuel mixture to be more fuel than air causing the chamber to combust hotter than normal. Since the air pump was removed during installation (per installation directions), would it make sense to re-install the air pump to validate this theory and eliminate the glowing header?
Any suggestions?

Running lean would make the exhaust hotter than running rich wouldn't it? What year car is it? Do you have all the emissions control stuff still installed?
Without knowing the condition of the engine, I would say to check the exhaust for obstruction, check timing, and check the a/f mixture

the rx is an '85 (stock 12A)
the thermal reactor (stock header) and all pre-silencers are removed
the engine has 127,000 miles on it
what is the best way to check the a/f mixture w/o taking it to a dealership?
