Just disassembled the Nikki carb....
man I hope I never have to again. I've only had to deal with FI until now, and let me tell, ya, all those vacuum lines and cables and lines and **** can kiss my ***! I already downloaded RX7Carl's emissions removal tutorial
That will hopefully simplify re-installation. I already ditched the air pump and next week an e-fan and MSD 6a w/Blaster Coils are going in.
Also in this process I have been sandblasting alot of the metal bits under the hood and repainting them black. All is good so far.....anyone know where I can get an interior rearview mirror for an '82 FB? (one that holds position that is)
Rock on pics to come soon!

I just finished putting mine together on Sunday, with emissions intact. I've had no time to play with it, really; although it idles fine. (I am getting slight spikes on my tach, though.) What an adventure.
I took photos of the disassembly, made copies of the carb assembly drawing, and highlighted each component on the diagram per each step. Each of these went into a ziplock bag, with the actual component and a highlighted diagram. I had a total of 60 baggies with drawings; as well as a Powerpoint slideshow display of the photos to reference. I made it almost foolproof!
I only wish that while I had it apart that I would have had access to an ultra sonic cleaner unit to make my carb hardware sparkle like those Sterling carbs!

Yeah, I was considering breaking it down to each individual piece, sandblast, then polish whatever I could, but then I thought that someday soon I may be ditching it for a weber. Also the car needs to be back together and driving by Friday to take to a show. Its hard when you're trying to do two things at once, rebuild a carb, and paint parts, guess which one is harder.
Yeah, Garfinkle told me to stick with the Nikki. I said that you build them to spec for a reasonable price and he thought that was an excellent idea. I already have an RB header, so anything will be an improvement. I'll let you know Carl!
We can thank Littlecat for these illustrated carb manuals links:

I went through the specific line-item steps for disassembly, and per each step, I made a copy of the carb assembly drawing (Air horn consisted of like 25 copies, Main throttle body was like 20 copies, and the base was several copies.)
Then, as I physically disassembled, I'd drop the piece of hardware into a ziplock bag, with the copy of the assembly drawing that had that actual part highlighted on the drawing copy.
I can try to email you the Powerpoint slide show; although, the carb manual assembly drawing is awesome, with step-by-step procedure is priceless. Both together really made it easy for me on re-assembly.
If you have a digital camera, keep it on the work bench and take photos of different angles of your carb during the process. hoses and lines can be especially tricky if you wait a week to rebuild. If you're like me, you'll forget how they all fit without photo references. Get the Factory Service manual and Haynes Manual if possible, too. Haynes has very clear photos.
