JDM Fender Mirrors

I've got an SA22C and want to move the mirrors from the doors to just above the fender, like a lot of old Japanese sports cars had them.

Anyone know how where to start? Where i'd get some mirrors? How i'd mount them? Any information on this style of mirror would be nice. I don't plan on actually using the mirrors, just having them there cause they look cool. I'm gonna get a panoramic rearview mirror.

I think you could probably use the mirrors from your car. If you look at the pic, the contour of the car stays the same all the way to the front from the door. All you would have to do is take your mirrors off from the door, fill the hole with bondo or something, then remount at midway up the fender in the same general spot on the contour. I could be wrong though. I have never actually seen the mirrors in person. They do look the same in the pic though.

I think the JDM mirrors have a longer stem and a more rounded, bullet-shaped mirror. Maybe I could find a junkyard with an old JDM Toyota or Mazda.

Don't use just Bondo to fill the holes. It draws water and will rust out your doors. First weld up the holes then cover that with bondo and sand it smooth.

Not only the passenger side. Drivers side will be as hard.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that. It probably is a good idea to get as much done as possible with the welder. You may even be able to make it smooth without using bondo. That would be the ****.

nope. The body is dropping away to the front, The mounting is different. Also, the point is to have the 'JDM look' and the fender mirrors weren't the same mirror pods.

I dont think you will be able to see as well with the mirrors way up there...before you invest alot of money
tie one of your friends to the hood and have them hold the mirror and drive around the block and see if you like it.......

Guys, he's not planning on actually using them :-)

They're just for looks.

I wouldn't be suprised to learn that you can still buy them directly from Mazda - probably $200 each or something rediculous like that.

Seriously though, why? They may be very effective and better than conventional door-mount mirrors, but they look god-awful. Unless you're going for the original look, just get some mirrors off an FB - they look a million times better and are electric.

IMO the fender mirror is better than the door mounted ones when it comes to visibility.

well what if you used the stockers (US) and put them on the fenders but not so far forward... like the other side of the tire... closer to the driver

Well, I guess I had better reply to all these posts. I think that 99% of first generation body kits (almost entirely because of the front air dam) look terrible. At the same time, i'm not necessarily looking for that stock look, more of a Savanna look, short of the RHD. To repeat myself, I don't think i'll be looking through these mirrors. Relying on mirrors has gotten me into an accident in the past. I can't use the mirrors on the car as it is, they're not aerodynamic-looking enough. Maybe there are other cars out there that have similar mirrors. I heard that using bondo and painting the holes will require repainting the entire door. True?
