It was easy to install. If I can do it ANYONE can.

Overpriced? In, my opinion, a little.
Works? I have no clue, I didn't do any testing before or after the install.
Does my car start quickly? Yes.
Do I have break up and high rpms? No.
Do I get tremendous gas mileage? No, but I figure running 14lbs. through a big turbo sucks all my gas away.

I will try to answer any other questions if you have them.

yes it works. I agree its overpriced but you could pick up a used one at a good price. i have seen them sell beyween 50 - 100 $ used. Its a very good upgrade for a 79-80. fixes a lot of issues with the points setup. Its a mod - good upgrade for the 81-85. better results have been made with the msd system. if you have a upgraded carb/ intake you will see beter results with just about any aftermarket ig system for our cars. it will stablize your idle and smooth out the rpm range and remove higher rpm miss . As for more hp and gas mileage you probly wont see or feel it.

10 years ago I had an 81 RX-7 with a SP 13B, Mikuni carb, dual RB exhaust. I used a Jacobs Ignition set-up similar to what you have mentioned. I don't recall it being that expensive.
As far as improving performance?- smooth power in all RPM bands.
Easier start-ups?- Marginal.
Less fouling on plugs?- Definately.
Was it worth it?- eh........

My current 85 will prob get the MSD set up with direct fire someday. MSD is abundant and can be found at reasonable prices. Plus there are more resources (on this forum) with direct knowledge on installs and toubleshooting (if needed). Just my opinion..

You can extrapolate HP gains and losses based on total HP of engine regardless of type for quick and dirty HP estimates...this is what a Jacobs Ignition Pack did for a Moostang being worked on in GRM...




For 12As in the 100 - 140 HP at the flywheel range, the gains will be minimal, but they will be there, avg. est. gain = 8 HP...

I've had one installed in my 82 with a direct fire setup for three years now and will never go back to the old setup. Installation was not difficult at all. It also has an ignition disabling feature that serves as a anti-theft device... Performance was improved almost immediately... Specially in cold starts...

Did it come with the distributor cap you have there? Also where'd you get the serpintine setup?

The distributor cap is the stock. I just painted red along with the coil. The Serpentine belt with the aluminum underdriven pulleys I got from theis place.

If I had disposable income, then yes I'd buy one. I would test it on at least one engine, but probably more (for more accurate and therefore real-world results). I'd put it up to the tests of ease of installation, cold starts, low, mid, high RPM power etc. I'd compare it with an MSD with two stock Diamond coils, two Blaster II coils, one FC DIS coil, one MSD brand DIS coil (if there is such a thing; it's been a while since I looked), and DLIDFIS. I'd test all three ignition setups with various coils and and plugs. I'd even throw the test vehicle on the dyno.

Yeah, if only I had some disposable income.

I bought a Jacobs kit for my 4Runner a few years ago. Complete waste of time and money and I swore I`d never buy another Jacobs product. Maybe this one works but I won`t buy one.
