Issue warming up an SE?
I just replaced my throttle body and all is fine...one thing I notice is the car doesn't go to the usual 2k rpm on startup and working itself down as it warms up...currently it just goes up to 1k rpm then down to the norm 800rpm...what could it be?
thanx!

Check the Fast Idle Cam position and spring when the engine is cold. When you first turn the throttle body rods (pull the throttle cable), the cam should click back into place against the turning rod, thereby artificially accelerating the throttle. From here, the Thermo Wax Pellet (green tube thing at the rear of the TB), will take in coolant from the back of the waterpump and as the engine heats up, the wax will melt allowing the Fast Idle Cam to return to its 'home' position.
If the return spring on your Fast Idle Cam isn't working properly, it may not be camming under the throttle rod to hold the throttle at the higher position during cold startup.
This is actually a Mazda device to try and get the catalytic converter up to temperature more quickly and also get the engine warmed up quickly for heater use during the winter, but it's not actually a good thing to run the engine at higher rpm when the engine oil is cold and not flowing so well. Some people go out of their way to disengage this system - I left mine in place because it works just fine.
Startup sequence for an SE is (with engine OFF), push accelerator pedal to the floor completely, ONCE - release pedal pressure completely - then crank car until engine fires. This sets the Fast Idle Cam and also prevents flooding when you start it up. It will make no difference to an SE to assist with starting if you 'pump' the pedal - other than flooding it! HTH,
Oh, yeah - also be sure to check your Flux Capacitor for 1.21 Gigawatts as John pointed out...
