Investing in Racing Seats
Hey guys
Looking to invest in some racing seats. Just wondering what yall are running if you are running any and what brands to stay away from (cheap, don't fit, ugly).
Thanks
Josh

Are you looking for true racing seats or seats like the one pictured above? the one in the pic isn't a racing seat since it has an adjustable backrest. what do you intend to do with the car? street driven , auto-x, track days, all out racing? the answers to these questions will help guide you.

As eprx799 stated mine are not "racing seats" but cipher does make actual racing seats, so if that's what you are looking for then you can use the dimensions from mine to help decide on some other ones. Because any bigger and the seats wouldn't have fit.

well it will be a mix of street driving, auto X and track days. So I would like a fixed back so I was looking at the dimensions on his for guidelines on what will fit in the car.

Since you probably don't have a way to support the back of a racing seat, you will want to look at a name brand fiberglass or carbon fiber racing seat. Seats that are FIA approved do not need to have their back rest supported.
I have am aluminum Kirkey Road Race Intermediate installed in my racecar and it fits fine and is comfortable. However, an aluminum seat really needs to be attached to a roll bar/cage to support it at the top.
When I was messing with street cars in autox the best and cheapest way to stay behind the wheel was to install a 3" racing lap belt. If you cinch yourself tight into the stock seat you will be surprised at how much easier it is to drive in an autox or tack day. If you install the lap belt under the factory belts you can use both at the same time.

Scott is correct about the lap belt there is also a product called a CG Lock that attaches to your seat belt that locks your stock seat belt in place to hold you in your seat better.
If you are looking for a fixed back seat and are going to use a harness then you should also use at least a 4 point roll bar for roll over protection. I have a Sparco Evo2 US seat in my car it just fits width wise in the car and is very comfortable for a race seat. All good race seat manufactures will have seat dimensions on there web sites. Fiberglass/carbon fiber race seats are not cheap so it depends on budget, always try to buy the best safety equipment you can afford even if it means you don't get the new tires or header, carb. etc.. you can't enjoy your car when your dead.

ok well this all comes back down to how I decide on what size to get. I know that I need to measure myself but I don't have a way too. I know the best way is to go somewhere that has a show room floor of seats, but sadly in Nashville there isn't much of a car scene other than rich people driving 6 figure cars. I wear a size 34 pants so should I be looking at the evo 2 or just the evo?
Thanks for the help guys
Josh
PS plan to turn this into a track only car someday so I don't plan on skimping on the safety stuff. Just can only afford one thing at a time. The seat for starters lol

So i have been looking at that as well. Especially since I will be able to sit in his and test fit it. I would rather have a sparco or momo seat because they look more comfortable but I don't know how they will fit for me. Im 5'9 34 waist and 32 inseem.
I will see at my next autoX event though. If I don't like it I am probably going with the evo2
