a while back i read somthing about putting a bmw throttle body peice ( the peice from inbetween the throttle body itself and the hose for the filter) on the afm so you could have a cone filter...is this true?? also som1 said somthing about changed ur afm to some other kind of sensor so its less restrictive?? anyone know abou that?? thx

To add a cone filter, SEs only, all you need is the adapter that can be found on eBay and some parts stores.

yea, ebay is the cheapest way to go. 20 bucks gets you the adapter, gasket, and a filter. the one for the 90-93 miata fits beautifully.

The 2nd gen adapter for a cone filter will also work on the Se. You can get them at places like Auto Zone. I don't recommend the ebay set up. The filter is not good. You want to invest in a Kn filter or of similar quality.

The sensor you are refeering to is from the AFM to the MAF. But the Se will not run properly with one. There is only a couple of ways to get more air into the Se. 1) cone filter
2) Put on a 2nd gen S4 intake system, but your still stuck with the Afm from the Se.

Definitely agree on the eBay filter being crap. I bought one for my 2nd gen and it came apart from vibration, even though it was hard mounted to the body with a bracket.
