Intake Mani question for 13B NAs

Hey guys i haven't posted on here in a while, but boyhave I been searching and reading a bunch recently!

My radiator busted a while back and over heated the engine while I was driving in the mountains. The Oil seals on the front rotor are shot and the front rotor ahs bad compression... so I was going to rebuild the 13B (w/ Holley carb) but today as I started draining the oil and getting ready to pull the engine I noticed a lot of metal flaking in the oil. I figure there was engine damage. So i'm looking at putting in a remanufactured engine in rather than rebuilding. I can't find the info i'm looking for in either the 1st or 2nd gen forums...

Here's what I know/found out...
I can get a rebuilt 2nd Gen (86-92) NA that's street ported for cheap.
I have a "84" or so i've been told remanufactured 13B in my 79 that has a Holley Carb set up...
I know the GSL-SE 13Bs can have a S4 intake manifold put on it
I know you can carb a 2nd gen 13B

BUT can a S4/5 take a "84" Carb intake manifold?

I'm guessing yes but before i drop money on it I want to make sure it'll work. If not I'll have to decide my plan of action to get my car up and running again.

Thank in advance for the help!

depends if you have the 4 or 6 port manifold. All you need to do with the engine is put your front cover and oil pan on. There is a proper procedure for swapping the front cover, so be careful.

Like 84stock says, just match 4 or 6 ports with the right intake and you're good. If you go with the S5 you'll have to do a little spark and carb tuning to take advantage of the higher compression.

Is this the car you were going to sell? What a bummer. Where are you getting a cheap rebuilt street ported engine around here?

Yeah I was aware of that and I have the oil pan and the front cover from the 13B that's in it.
It's still for sale...

I took off my intake manifold last night and come to find out it's a 4 Port 13B... so it's not from a GSL-SE like I had been told by the previous owner.

there is a guy who built two (84 and 89 NAs) and one for hima nd one for a customer. The customer didn't come through so he's gonna sell one and put the other in his first gen.

I'm gonna make a few decisions here in the next half hour or so and my options are something like...
-try to rebuild the motor with new seals, spring and gaskets.
-Buy a engine from Maztech ($2500+ not the route of choice)
-Buy a engine from Mazda ($4500+/- definitely not my route of choice)
-Drop in the 84 GSL-SE Street ported engine Plus Buy a new intake manifold and hope my carb will work on it... I don't know the CFM for this carb so that'll be risky if using a street ported engine)
-Drop in the 84 GSL-SE Street ported engine plus buy UIM, LIM, TB, MAF, Fuel Rails, O2 Sensor, Fuel Pump, Fuel Regulator (if not running stock SE fuel Pump), Megasquirt to handle it all and anything else I may be forgetting to list.
-Drop in the 89 GTU Street ported engine plus buy UIM, LIM, TB, MAF, Fuel Rails, O2 Sensor, Fuel Pump, Fuel Regulator (if not running stock S5 fuel Pump), Megasquirt to handle it all and anything else I may be forgetting to list.

I'm leaning towards the S5 engine w/ megasquirt tune... any thoughts?

I basically have your last option, except with a Haltech ECU (170hp to the wheels woohoo). So I guess my advice is obvious. 2nd gens have an in-tank fuel pump, it's easier to use the SE or an aftermarket external pump. If you need any info, or want to take a look at my car, let me know.
