Instument Panel's Out

Well, I found my short for the radio memory, dome lights etc. but now the dash lights are out. My aftermarket radio still dims when I turn on the headlights. Does this mean that my variable dimmer circuit is still alive but that all the bulbs are blown? How many bulbs are back there, and what sizes are they?

There are lots of bulb back there, small ones for the warning lights, 4 larger ones for the backlighting, and 2 for the turn signals.

I'm not totaly sure what your problem is...if stuff's dimming with the headlights and stereo on I'd be looking at the altenator.

A lot of stereos have built in dimmer circuits you wire into the dash lights so that when you turn on the headlights, running lights, whatever, the stereo will dim. This is because when the headlights are on, its obviously dark, and you dont need a bright *** stereo glaring all over the inside of your car to impare your vision .

My dash lights in the gauge pod went out.....so I popped the dimmer switch out the front of the dash (after finding out I didnt have to take the entire dash out) and I just wired those wires together......bypassing the dimmer switch - which was fried. Fixed the problem instantly.
