Installing a sump in tank.

Has anyone installed a sump on their stock 1st gen tank...? I have the sump on order from Summit and the tank down already... I wanted to know if there are any heads up I should look out for... I haven't really looked into it much but what happens to the orginal pickup..? I'm guessing it'll be just for venting and return now.

You just block off the stock pickup. The hardest part of this is going to be getting the sump sealed once its been welded on. I haven't actually done this, so I'm not much help.

If you have an 84/85 SE tank - you don't need to sump it. It has baffles for the Fuel Injection.

I am not sure, but I *think* the regular 84/85 12 Cars may have the baffles as well.

Are we talkin about an SE-FC style slosh baffle box for a top mounted pump/pickup....or an actual sump box for fuel lines coming off the bottom of the tank?

If its the latter,I have seen someone who did that. Its not hard, just a little bit of cutting and welding. The up side is you get a bit of gravity feed pressure into an external pump(EFI or Carb). The bad side is that the sump and lines will be very low to the ground and exposed to damage.

If you mean the intank baffle, you cant go wrong with an FC tank.Any year or model will work, just cut up the FC tank and extract the slosh baffle and mounting rings for the pump and vent. Then have a shop cut out the hole in the FB tank a little, weld in the baffle box and weld on the rings. The FC fuel pump assembely will drop right in,its the perfect height to fit the FB tanks. Its exactly like the factory FC and most car's fuel pump systems so its quiet, reliable and easy to upgrade. The only down side is its pretty much only for high pressure EFI setups and its a tad more complicated, but it sounds like you have a competant shop to handle it.....
