Duct Tape?

Hmm.. maybe when you painted it the coating made the oil filler too thick and that's why it won't seat in its original hole? Other than that... I honestly don't know.

I struggled with this all last summer, the neck would seem to seat, but would let go after removing the cap a few times every couple of weeks, i am thinking of trying a small dab of JB cold weld on the neck after cleaning surfaces well, and prior to pressing it in with the block/sledge method, once the jb weld sets up that neck should be there until i decide to make it come back out. it is too cold out for me right now but i am thinking of trying this in the spring.

usually they can be tapped back in with a rubber mallet.... what is preventing it from sliding in the slot?

my guess is the oil filler neck was painted too thick or has been ovaled. if the former then sand the paint off and tap in with a block of wood and mallett. if the former it's very difficult to make it round again.

new one's with cap and seal aren't that much

I found it was a major pain to get out, and a easy to get in.

I removed the paint that was on the area where it goes into the block, smeared a little oil on it , and tapped it in with a mallet and block.
