Installing Holley fuel pump

Well, I've got the FPR and gauge installed from the Holley Blue kit no prob. That was easy.

I pulled down the stock pump and the nice little metal plate it mounts to. My problem is the Holley pump is a good deal larger. Also, the holley docs say to install the pump in an "upright position", with the electric motor above the rotar/vane assembly. The docs also say to mount the pump so that the tank can gravity feed the pump.

How important is it to mount the pump in this way? I was planning on laying it on it's side and reusing the stock rock-guard metal plate. If the stock plate doesn't fit I'm considering getting some thin steel metal and forming it to fit.

I'd say the mounting instructions are there for a reason. See if you can mount it on the frame rail where it starts to curve up before the diff. That's where I put my Carter.

Yes, I considered that location. I was worried about clearance issues and protecting it from road debris. It's a very big pump: much "taller" than a carter pump.

That is, perhaps, the only redeeming value of the budget Carter...

My understanding is that you will jeopardize the life of the pump by mounting any other way than vertical. I have the Carter mounted.........that's right, right before the axle on the frame rail.

BAH! This was supposed to be a 2hr. project! Funny how it never works out that way.

Thanks all for the good info. I'll shoe horn this sucker up on the frame rail somehow. Hmmmm, maybe I should fire up the blue wrench
