Installing 82 gsl complete rear end into my 85

I got a 82 gsl rear for a pretty good deal, and am going to be installing it into my 85. I know the driveshaft flanges are different, and will need to be swapped, but are there any other things I will need to be concerned about (brake lines, etc)? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Um, are you planning on swapping the WHOLE rear axle housing and all, or just the 3rd member? I hope youre not planning on swapping just the 3rd member because it wont work. The whole housing should work ok. I think theres something about the brake lines that needs to be addressed, but I cant remember off the top of my head.

That seems odd. When the rear end went out on my '78 RX-7 I went to the Junk Yard bought the whole rearend out of an '85 GS and transplanted it into my '78. It bolted up perfectly to the '78 driveshaft, the only issue I had was I had to double flair the brake lines at the calipers. Suspension fit without any problems what so ever.

I just purchased a 82 GSL rear end yesterday and I am going to be swaping it into my 85 GS after I check it out and clean it up. It sounds like we are doing the same thing, you should keep me posted about any problems you come across with this swap.

I am planning on doing the whole housing assembly. I have heard the driveshaft flange is different, so I was gonna swap the two flanges if possible. I was wondering if there are any other possible problems I might run in to. I will be rebuilding the rear end before the swap.

From the research I have done, the flange is the only difference. You can just swap them out, and everything else should be fine.
